orienteering 3:50:50 18.8 km (12:17 / km) +1903ft 10:38 / km
Mega course at Pawtuckaway. Really enjoyed it, despite not orienteering particularly well, and getting really tired at some point in the second hour. Walked a lot thereafter.
Company with Erik Osborn up though about 45, then I fell behind as I didn't see the root stock control on the map until Erik reminded me. Caught back up to him at 68, lost him for good after 72 (the Slot). For the rest of the way I was pretty much on my own, despite seeing others, mostly faster ones, for brief periods.
Mihai passed me at 85 (I didn't see the control and circled around once), passed me again at 100, again at 123, then I was with him up to 128. No flag there, looked around a bit, not wanting to miss it and end up with only 202 controls, found a punch on the cround and hung it up as visibly as I could (Mihai had since returned, wondering if I'd found something). That was the last I saw of him.
Hans Fransson went by about 154. Mike Waddington, Mark Adams, and Wil Smith cruised by at 159-160, Segei Z at 169, and that was about it.
Perhaps I would have hung in better with some company, but I had a fine time. Nevertheless, I was glad I didn't have to do a second loop.
