Easter 2015 Day 3 - Mulga Valley Course: M21ASledge 6.2 km 180 m

Quite a chilly day and a bit rainy too but that only added to the fun. I was second starter behind Bryn and 2min ahead of AK. I had a tumble on the way to 1 which left my hands, knees and shoulder a bit stingy (mainly from the cold and the fall, no broken skin). I caught Bryn by #2 after he stuffed it up worse than i did. I ended up drifting off my bearing to the north too much but relocated very quickly. AK caught the two of us by # 3 forming the ultimate pack to push us all around the course. I've never really taken to pack running before since i've never had that many people my speed around, this was fun though. AK confirmed that if he couldn't get himself on the podium the next best thing was to help me gain the time i needed on Slatts to run me into 2nd place. And it worked! We all navigated pretty well, and each had our turn in the lead at times. The pressure to keep with these two really spurred me on and keep my navigation really focussed. I led the guys through the creek controls towards the end which i was quite happy with not completely botching this part and made no mistakes on course other thant two. Bryn and AK abandonned my at the last control to make a dash for the green boxers. Bryn got there in 18seconds, AK in 20seconds and i got there in 40..... Managed to snag the second place, bumping Slatts down a rung on the podium. Couldn't have done it without the pressure from Bryn and AK - thanks guys! Finished the course in 4th place, which i was happy about.

The last presentation was made all that more awesom by Alex and Andrew M bringing the beers! Thanks to those guys too!

Easter 2015 Day 2 - Tundarri Course: M21ASledge 6.1 km 195 m

Late start on Day 2 was warm.... An enjoyable race though. NAvigation was spot on the whole way, but perhaps missed the optimal route choice on 6-7. I went up the hill to the left of the line where Juffy used his legs to go up the valley to the right of the line. Who knows if i would've been any quicker.... There were some stunning views to the east from the big bare hill i crossed twice. I do admit to stopping to check out the view, it was well worth it. I scored the Downhill Boxers today as i was second fastest on the downhill leg (Juffy won this leg but was already in the leaders boxers). 3rd place today and sitting in 3rd place overall since AK managed to lose a whole stack of places taking him out of contention for a podium finish.

Easter 2015 Day 1 - Wonna Creek Course: M21ASledge 5.1 km 180 m

Simon allowed the Sledge's a mass start from the arena to save us having to walk too far. Such a fun race, right from the start we were all thrust into a route choice problem as the first leg went straight through a 25m high cliff. Half of us went right and the other half went left. The people that went left seemed to be a bit quicker, but Simon wasn't convinced that that was the best route. The race devolved into two trains - the Juffy/AK Train and the Slatto train, and the rest who were just loose carriages drifting on the tracks. I was in the Slatto train and was enjoying the ride. I quite enjoyed a couple of trainwrecks along the way too. Like the one where Juffy just appeared next to me after completely losing the lead and failing miserably on #8. He regained a 2nd place for the day. I was pretty clean through it all, but disappointed i didn't have the legs to pass Slatts. I encourages Slatts to run faster to prove he could beat me. He was right. 5th place for the day.

Easter 2015 Public Prologue - Jamestown Course: Long 4.2 km 10 m

Fun start to the carnival. For a realitvely simple sprint map, AK did a good job at setting and offering some nice navigation problems to solve. My favourite was the approach to 8 then to control 9 where you had to solve the tricky bit of the map around the rail crossing. Well set. I managed to DNF this course as i failed to identify that my course had a control 20 on the map. Instead i had a fantastic route choice from 19 to 21. Shame on me. Well played AK, well played.
