Orienteering 21:27 [3]

University of Washington - first race. I felt really in control this race. Confident start, first to the first control, time and energy to plan ahead and pick good routes. Lost confidence at #5, which lost the time I had pulled out on the pack. Managed to get ahead and sort of chase Ryan down, but he was too fast overall.

Orienteering 24:07 [3]

Forked last race. Was with Tomas for about 50% of the first loop, before he pulled away. I was with Ryan on the second loop, and managed to punch the hub before him, but he got me by about 20 seconds overall. Again, I felt very in control this race, with a few minor bobbles.

Overall, I was really pleased with this weekend. I'm sure the lack of running speed helped give me more time for map interpretation/planning, but I was able to stay focused, look ahead, choose my exit route, relocate quickly when I lost contact... all consistently on every race.

In time alone, my placing in each round was:
Time trial - 40
Woodland Park - 52
Carkeek - 39
SPU - 33
UW1 - 40
UW2 - 37

So 41 overall sounds about right. If I had been 1.5 minutes faster in Woodland Park (which was around 40th place), I would have been in the green bracket at the end... maybe Patrick can put the technical races first next year :) Or maybe I should just train a little more consistently.

Orienteering 8:53 [3]

SART! First event was time trial in Gasworks. Smooth navigation for the most part, except #8 where I failed to orient my map correctly. Placed 40th overall

Orienteering 19:29 [3]

Woodland Park. Remembered a few things from last year, which made me a little more confident. Running speed was slow! Navigation was clean and I was able to plan exit/look up and see where to go before I got the controls.

Orienteering 21:34 [3]

Carkeek Park. This was such a runners course, I really struggled. Kate and I were pushing each other up the hills (almost literally).

Orienteering 22:59 [3]

Seattle Pacific University. My most favourite map of the weekend! This map was technical and Patrick set lots of traps. Slow speed (and a little skill) meant I was able to anticipate the traps, check control descriptions, and know whether I needed to be up or down. Kate and I were together most of the race, even with some differences in route choice for the last few controls. Then a misunderstanding (I didn't MEAN to cut her off) meant she made me sprint down the finish chute... she got in front of me and blocked me from punching the control. Obviously the obligatory Canadian hockey training came in handy :)

Running 30:00 [3] 4.0 km (7:30 / km)

Worst run ever. From work to home. Heavy backpack, tight calves... saving grace was the 6x set of stairs I did mid-way. Doesn't really build confidence for this weekend.
