With some strides, followed by some stretching (static and dynamic) to get legs loose.

Note

Now that I've shaken the URI and xc ski is well and truly behind now, must plan to do more long runs - say at least 1 hour + once a week, although base isn't too bad for this time of year. Plus get back to one track session a week and do a 1000m or 1500m/mile time trial soon = a plan of sorts.

Legs definitely tired today- moved fairly well after warm up and stretching, but had to walk a couple of short/sharp hills at end. A couple of Nav errors = 1min. Fatigue in middle part, running 0.5 min/k slower = 1 min lost. Very pleasant day, getting almost too warm! Good course set by Dan W which kept things interesting.

Nice morning- pipes have cleared. Maddi is on the mend (chest harness and supervised playtime in force). Ros is on antibiotics for her bronchitis. Should be a good weekend.

Escaped work early, felt surprisingly good so pushed into tempo mode.

Return to normalcy, clearing out the toobs- breathing OK, legs a little wobbly, so maybe no track as planned today- slow run instead.

Plan was easy 5km with polar HR, keeping under 130 and preferably in low-mid 120's. More mouth breathing than usual due to blocked passages. Mission accomplished. Must be getting smart with old age- kept enthusiasm and need for speed under control!

Yesterday turned out to be one of those crappy days- and I 'm logging the experience to remind me of priorities in life. So on top of the cruddy congestion and restless night (we must have caught it from the plane flight), our dog Maddi ( 21 mo old Berner) suffered a medical emergency spending the last 24 hours at Tufts Veterinary Hospital. Maddi's family is thus off on emotional roller coaster ride. Kudos to super nurse Ros and her diagnostic 6th sense that detected faint stridor that became worse over 10 mins - ok off to emergency vet. Xrays- suggest pneumothorax and mediastinal thickening- presumptive diagnosis esophageal tear- not a good diagnosis outcome wise. Off to Tufts, which I highly recommend based on this experience, review xrays and do endoscopy -layrngeal obstruction possibly secondary to trauma or foreign body (maybe tumor- something the breed has a reputation for)- biopsy = lymphocytic infiltrate ie reactive inflammation. Steroids and antibiotics. Get home at 7pm quick bite to eat and drive out to Westboro- greeted by groggy plaintive cries and tail wags- no longer in extremis- no other intervention appeared to be needed- observe ON in ICU. Call today - progress = can go home, re-layrngoscope next week. Collective sigh of relief and realization that while human welfare and loved ones trump all, special pets come a very close second. This is one but that's another story.

HR recording from Saturday- sensor had drifted down to my waist- so likely also picking up surface EMG activity- hence values in the 180-200 zone!!
