What a fabulous area and bonus! only 10 minutes from my Drummoyne base.Quite cool and overcast and not much noticeable in the way of smoke, owing to some hefty wind last night.
Quite good navigation and reasonable route choice and planning. Outstanding area for this type of event. Happy with not getting stressed at beginning and making tentative decisions.

Event (Big Foot Sprints XXII) 34:32 [5] 3.2 km (10:47 / km) +60m 9:52 / km

Race 2 was a very different style - much longer legs in open running and long slogs up hill (should not have pushed this in 2 sections - tipped over the 'magic' 150 HR which is a no-no) and got a bit worried and distracted.
OK so I have an "old" faithful SI stick which only takes 30 controls but it is suitably in sync with my tiny little brain as it was at the 16th of 17 controls in second race that my brain went fuzzy and was my only stupid mistake today - just couldn't fit in 34 controls accurately and had to muck up one. I don't think I switched off but I'm thinking now my map was not quite orientated to N and that led me to a building downhill and needed to relocate and scamper uphill.
It's the first chasing start I've done and was looking forward to it, but being in the lower quarter of the pack we ended up having a mass start. Now that meant that most of us are of similar ability and so there was little navigation if you caught someone (anyone!). So instead of a string of people there was a pack. Sure the first leg looong slog up the hill sorted some of us out (my first scary part of HR) but what it also did was make some decision making ineffectual. Glad when there was some choice to get ahead of a couple of women I seemed to be following - but wasn't. I did do well on some contouring decisions and gained some time.
Great experience - and a definite map envy from me.
Nice chat in between races with Russell B who is returning to NCN in 2020, and with Alan G and with Gayle, Helen, Jo and of course Jim.

Park Run (greenway) 45:31 [3] 5.06 km (9:00 / km)
shoes: black+blue

Got hotter when cloud/smoke lifted. Back to just 2 loops after the completion of the synthetic basketball courts. Not as ghastly frenetic as last time. 3 orienteers said hello in passing. A bit disappointed at time - thought I was going a little better but absolutely no thought of running - too much smoke and too little interest.

gym class (PF Challenge) 1:00:00 [4]
shoes: white puma

Felt much better leaving than entering. Ended up with a very fit person as partner but we still did quite well. Except that I replaced squats for jump squats (being careful as Street Series this afternoon) which in effect would have slowed me down I still managed a top 3 finish for the 1-5 pyramid - twice. Elbow still a bit tender so was careful there too - hoping today is last day of scrubbing and painting so I can give my arm a rest.

Note

Scrubbing, washing, staining and oiling all now complete. Yiha! After 10 days of washing down, scrubbing, sanding, oiling and staining the exteriors of the front deck, the Garden Room, the woodwork on the 1st floor and the carport are "done". Looks really good. I'm knackered and happy not to be using Turps as my perfume for the next 2 weeks.

Street Series (#10 Merewether) 45:44 [4] 5.3 km (8:38 / km)
shoes: black+blue

Set by Tim and Nichole. Decided on a route then made the clear decision to do that course backwards so would finish downhill with strong breeze on my back. Felt like I was getting quality points but not quite as many as I'd hoped or felt. Also again made late decision to get another 1 pointer only to lose it. A bit of a foolish exit from a playground cost both time and distance (=time in this game). Happy with planning but "pleased" to again be beaten by Karen and Bernadette.
Long chats afterwards as we begin a 2 week break. Mae a few arrangements to meet up at various parkruns over the next 3 weeks - bonuses of Christmas Day - for some and NYD for many.

Right elbow starting to feel the effects of scrubbing, painting, staining and oiling so eased back on weights a little.

gym class (PF Challenge) 1:00:00 [4]

Did a lot of Box jumping so I'm going to be careful in next 2 days with knees. Seemed to get better as class went on - not surprising as I'm becoming reluctant to go - only sheer determination keeps me turning up. I think mental fatigue has hit in.
