Park Series (Chinamans Hollow - final) 55:05 [4] 5.68 km (9:42 / km)
shoes: grey/white

What a cracking event. Bit of a kerfuffle getting there as sadly there had been a fatality on HEX and road closures and diversions in place. That wasn't the problem - finding the actual fields which were between 2 streets - and of course I was on the wrong side. Still I got there.
New map from ID and a very fitting venue and course for finals. 28 controls and a lot of twists and turns, so I needed to really concentrate from about #24 onwards. Only blemish was stupidly putting my finger over a control number and running the line - except I was going from 5 to 6 and the control in the middle was 27. Oh and I was following a track and decided that there was another very straight track from it going right to the control I wanted. Pity it was just the intersection of the line joining controls and the track I was on. The printing was lovely and clear, but in the gloom of dark green it did look very "right". Pulled myself back very quickly.
So ends the best part of the year. Next Wed is Night Champs when tRicky will be here!!!s - may or may not go - need to find out where it is.

Mind elsewhere (on vehicle's unsettling performance on way to gym). Left before stretching.

walking (Beach) 48:00 [3]
shoes: grey/white

Very quiet morning - still, overcast, odd shower overnight. Not wanting to stretch the friendship with either face or foot i decided to do the first of an occasional series - living in our beautiful city. So padded up heel well, donned walking gear and off I went to beach. Parked about midway - went North first ie uphill along ANZAC Walk then over to King Edward Park then return on low road along beachfront watching paddle boarders to the top of Dixon Park headland and then return to car. Lots of people out walking themselves, babies and animals.
Really enjoyed this. Will obviously pick my day and time but very enjoyable.

Event (Sugarloaf NOY1) 1:41:00 [3] *** 3.84 km (26:18 / km) +120m 22:45 / km
spiked:10/13c shoes: new black O

Still restricted to walking and helped out on Desk for an hour after helping to set up. Was supposed to be on Admin for newcomers but someone else did that.
Tough area, and it is also seductive. It is a well known picnic area and we've used it a bit for events but still need to be very wary.Started off OK, then came the climbs. Tried to contour a bit between 5 and 6 but went too far around so ducked out to powerline clearing and came in at tiny clearing. Thought I did fairly well here in reading vegetation and pulled 6 quickly. Also seemed to do well in picking attack area for 7. Big slog up hill to 8 which was one I spiked at SL last year but then spent an age going through the stripe to get to track to contour around to major road and bench. En route to 9 my dressings slid off and I could feel blood trickling down my cheek - oh that's not good. But not much to do so kept going to 9 which was OK then over across road to 10. I've had trouble in this area before and again I was too far to the SE and was just at the start of the cliff rather than midway. Colin Currie was strolling around same area and he convinced me I wasn't even in the circle. I was misinterpreting several rock features making them into the cliff line. But when i found the cliff line it was obvious. Estimating where the break was and the boulder - and at the foot... well I peered over the edge and didn't see the flag - decided to go along further and looked back and there it was ! I thought distance was OK - and so it was. 11 OK then 12 slog up hill. Along to 13 and Finish.
Probably trying to make the most of the situation - but I shouldn't perhaps walk courses and enjoy them so much. I might forget one is supposed to run a bit.
Note: so now my scraped skin off heel from yesterday has been superseded by a 2cmx1cm blister over the top!

Park Run (Newy) 52:51 [1] 5.0 km (10:34 / km)
(injured) shoes: black+blue

Quite cool but still morning. Only permitted to walk - and then not at pace until Monday (don't get hot and sweaty and mess up surgeon's handywork or sweat the dressings) so went prepared for a stroll. Wore 3/4s, sunnies and told myself to stroll. It didn't take long to get into rogaine pace which was nice. Happy until 4km mark when toe of left shoe started to flop then rest of sole within 50m. I was extremely unhappy - only been using these for less that 50km. rockman was on photographer duties and noted my unhappy expression. Got back to car and mumphed.
Congratulations to the 90 year old who ran and to Penny on her 250th parkrun volunteering. Special people both!

Additional whinge: because of vanity I wore ankle socks which promptly disappeared into my shoes. This has caused loss of skin from both heels which added to my chaffing on right arm/inner bicep and right inner leg just topped off the whole thing.
Rest of the day: voting and Chemical Clean Up (6 monthly) - at least something positive will be achieved. Trust me to just do junk kms.

Note
(injured)

Mumphy - not really injured - more like attacked. Face swathed in bandages until tomorrow - attack of killer skin specialist and the hole punch as rockman calls it. No exertion today, no sweating for 3 days. Looks like I even have to dawdle walk parkrun on Saturday.
