Event (NOY 7) 1:29:00 [3] 4.3 km (20:42 / km)
spiked:8/10c

Arrived early to help set up. Lots of others there so that was good. A little drizzle made things for set up annoying. With no newcomers to help I went out earlier than usual.
S-1 Just escaping from the Start triangle was a challenge and i didn't see the simple route choice of track behind the start triangle so bush bashed after going along main track for about 40m. The apparent OOB was also confusing. Looking for w/c and then I was OK, albeit in thick green; bash, bash ahh track beside the high fence so good - just caught a little in the sinking sand. No nav until leaving corner of OOB fence. Rest was fine - just the simple stuff was a challenge (more of that to come!).
1-2 fine
2-3 SE bearing, fine, first branch of w/c, so will need to go to second but so many deep w/c gullies; could see the large mound but not fit the control to it. Eventually saw CM looking purposeful and guessed it was control.
3-4 Chosen straight line route good
4-5 So the choices are go out to boring tracks after following w/c or just keep following w/c. Now it was well within dark green but usually there is a way and for parts there was but I got a bit disorientated and needed to pull towards the w/c until track crossed. Then of course green disappeared and it was fine. No problems in circle.
5-6 no problems
6-7ticked off features and had no issues.
7-8 Looong leg but with definite markers. Crossed minor track and arrived at major track. Elected to go right to minor track which was correct decision. Followed to T intersection, which never came (confirmed by others too) but yes well there was quite a sharp LH turn and then a w/c crossing so I guessed where I was and helped CM to assess she had drifted WAY to the right. So headed SE and came across a majorish track (and saw others on it) but wasn't sure it was that major track so continued SE but pushed about by vegetation. Could hear road traffic "in front of me" which was good as I spent quite some time in dense dense green which always gave the promise of a w/c but didn't deliver. Decided to head South bail out option and on doing so found a firm single track which seemed to go in the right direction. And it took me straight to the control. Too much bush bashing, not careful enough with direction but not helped by no sun. All my doing.
8-9 straight forward
9-10 Twisted around again - found this difficult - brain fade.
10-F Even struggled with this - due to a very high fence and machinery. Eventually found it.
F-Download. Well about 8 of us got lost leaving the F - just wanted to wander alongside the fence. Switched off and was going S instead of E. All the easy stuff !!!

So in looking at how many controls I spiked it bears NO relation to time or result. In fact time lost was mostly due to absolutely wretched route choice and refusal to use tracks.

Really enjoyed the course and the area; nice control placement and tough course setting. Well done to LH - fantastic first time setting - worthy of 3 stars! (the courses, not me - I was a dim 1/2 star - I relocated well and when I was in the wrong place I knew where I was - except going to and from the Start and Finish)

warm up/down (Control collection) 55:00 [1]

Was allocated a nice little cluster of controls nowhere near my course - just as well - might still be waiting for me.
Lovely gentle rain throughout day making forest just glorious.Controls were just from Easy or Very Easy course, I'm guessing - maybe food for thought.

At Home: mmmm hot chocolate.

walking 30:00 [2]

Brisk walk to and from end of bridge cone position - volunteering for Parkrun. Walked very quickly on the way out to ensure I beat the fast guys. What a lovely job that is - people so generous in their thanks. I could understand it if I was halfway position!!

gym class (Body Sculpt) 1:00:00 [5]

Toughest class in recent times (meaning when I've been fit and well). Came closest to exercising to 'failure' which I do need to do a lot more. I tend to be too conservative and hold back for the final part. What i did do was as it was tabata 20sec I really loaded up bar for squats - and found it manageable. So maybe I'll be brave in Body Pump next week.
3 major tabata sections, 7 rounds each 20/10/20 then run and 60 sec of full sit ups. Sad to say but my tailbone is a bloody mess again - with grazing. But I did manage to do all 3 rounds of 60 secs so happy with that AND I did the whole 100 burpees (20repx5) managed but struggled and form was wonky at the end. Leg killer was 50m of walking lunges followed by return of sprinting - for 3 minutes. Knowing that I'm volunteering tomorrow at Parkrun I decided to go for broke today. Tonight might be interesting - DOMS promised sometime in the next 48 hours.

gym class (Body Pump) 1:00:00 [4]

Rest Day? What Rest Day? That all went out the window with a poor night's sleep so no tripping around for us today. Instead went to gym as usual and will spend some part of the rest of this glorious day out in the sun at the beach eating prawn sandwiches and drinking coffee. There that'll fix it.
Went heavier on back and triceps and was rewarded with puffiness and sweat - so a win there.

exploring 1:00:00 [1]

Bathers Way walk with rockman after beachside picnic of prawn sandwiches and coffee. A little breezier than Tuesday. Late sighting of 2 pods of dolphins frolicking in breaking waves.

gym class (Cross Fit Training) 1:00:00 [4]

Was an auspicious start - "Go and run around outside" was the order while instructor wrote today's torture session on the mirror. After a warm up ball game (a taster for next week's games day) we got ALL the equipment out. First section was 20 mins long 17-15-13 etc - I got to 7 which I was quite pleased with - interspersed with laps, then break - this I was very wary of. I had a right to be as next section was even tougher - 5 'rest' activities then 20 of other, mostly upper body strength, but the 'rest' activity was burpees so that gives an idea of the session. Only got through 3 rounds of 8 x20 so I was flagging. Plus the run in between was canned after the first round to give us more time!! Apparently some people were going slow to minimise their inside time.
Interested in ball handling skills - mine. Not too bad which was pleasing. Next week will be interesting.
11 AM

walking 20:00 [3]

Briskly to and from pharmacy. Legs really feeling tired and it would be a mockery to try to run - either today's class wasn't a 4 or I'd be doing a run slower than I can walk. Hence I walked. Running going backwards - Parkrun volunteering again this weekend due to foreseen circumstances and good time management.
2 PM

gym replacement activity 30:00 [3]

Logged 30 as part of the 90 I spent luggin, and sawin down some tall timbers. Hands a bit sore now but legs are quite weary so maybe good thing that tomorrow promises to be a Rest Day. Bit of a job to get under handrail but at least I could toss the long branches over the top of it. Perhaps I could try that route too....or not.

Note

rockman has identified our pond frog - Freycinet's frog - cute little brown frog in and around our pond. But not the only variety to be found judging by calls we hear.

gym class (Body Pump) 1:00:00 [4]

Toughest of this type in a long while, when it was the class not my ineptitude. Lunges were particularly savage.
2 PM

walking 58:00 [3] 4.0 km (14:30 / km)

Surf House - top ANZAC Walk - Surf House with Maria. Lovely day, great travel catch up, useful Gala Day planning session. Saw a WHALE! very close in to shore. Coffee reward at the end.
