Event (NOY 3) 1:03:35 [3] *** 3.93 km (16:11 / km)
spiked:11/13c

Went early (solo, unfortunately) to be there for a newcomer. However newcomer was extra early and I missed out by 5 minutes in doing the meet-and-greet. Still that allowed me to get out on my course early. Lovely weather - just a little bit of misty rain at times, right temp. Area didn't have much, if any, fallen stuff so it was a really nice area for running in as mostly open too. Decided to be conservative and dispel a few of the horrors from last event - which I did very satisfactorily.
Nice confidence building course from Roberts family - thanks a lot.
Nothing untoward and all nav was fine, just a little bit of drifting but all good. Pleased to be on my own from 4, but saw a few people from a distance on different courses until 11 which was my only muddle/befuddle control. A couple of extra earthwalls + junk made it very easy to make features fit. Picked up about 3 people on the way to the last 2 controls so that wasn't unusual.
Had a 0.4 Committee meeting afterwards with extras which was nice. What wasn't nice was the hour of great discomfort with back pain - small movements were absolute agony. Looking forward to massage tomorrow. This was a real puzzle - bits of it before I started, but nothing on the run (well walk) . Just changing clothes and putting on socks and taking off ankle tape was terrible. Got home, long shower and about an hour later back seemed to loosen up. I suspect it could be build up of lactic acid which I've had before - but from yesterday. Still nice day out.

Park Run (Newy) 33:52 [5] 5.03 km (6:44 / km)

After watching Todd Sampson I decided to redesign MY brain and following on from last weekend's effort I thought I just might make some improvements this morning. Beaut weather too; numbers not very high meaning not too many prams and dogs. Had only a banana for breakfast and suffered absolutely no sick feelings; controlled my breathing and deliberately slowed early on only to see me actually passing people fairly soon. Got to half way before temptation struck and I decided i would have to do it then (walk). Limited myself to no more than 2 mins total of walking so I know I've got about 1 minute improvement which can come soon. Very happy with time at halfway point. Run time a PB by 26 secs, race time a big PB too - but rockman tells me there is something not quite right with that for the early runners.
Eliz - 7:22 not terrible but not nearly as fast as I would have thought. No horrible chest feeling so OK.
Cone - 16:40 (9:18)- WOW that's about the best I could hope for.
Eliz -26:27. (9:47) Tried to restrict walking sections to just 2 which I did. So this is the section to work on
Finish - 33:52 (7:25)- Surprised how close this was to starting section, when I looked afterwards.

Note

Feeling much better since Saturday. Was starting to feel gluggy by Friday night having done no exercise since Tuesday and had 2 coffee mornings and 1 meeting day instead of going to the gym. Balance restored by doing some exercise, eating less bread and more fruit.
9 AM

gym class (Cross fit Training) 1:00:00 [5]

Tough to point of exhaustion - getting better at transitions. my partner and I beat interval time: 1:41 - 1:35 -1:28 Wow i might even submit myself to being a partner again. (I don't do partners - i do threesomes - no comment from you tRicky)
10 AM

running 8:00 [3]

Trotting track and grass (1 lap) = as a basis
11 AM

running 22:40 [4]

To local pharmacy -so now I know how slow I am when I walk this (half the pace). Dumped script at desk and continued running through the estate for the requisite pharmacy 10 minutes. Went back and then had to wait 9:36 (oh I was counting believe me) for the drugs then off again. I found it really hard to get going again and as it is decidedly uphill to home I wasn't looking forward to it. Only 1 min slower which was a surprise as about 30sec walking. Happy with today's efforts and think if I can keep it up I will start to make progress. Doing something once a week is of little value (except if it is housework).
