Event (NOY 1) 51:25 [4]

Well the first bush event of the year with a time less than an hour - gotta be happy with that. But still way down on points scoring. We went early as I had expected some newcomers - they didn't show but I was co-opted for Start Desk early on and then a graduate from yesterday's coaching arrived so I helped her. I wasn't very enthused - the walk to the Start was fine but negotiating the watery paths was playing on my mind - getting orthodics and shoes wet even before I start wasn't encouraging. By the time I was to start we'd worked out the best way and all was well - but I'd managed to get enough doubting and negative thoughts into my tiny little brain that I went out in a very negative and defeated frame of mind. Muffed #1, wayward on #2, slowish to #3 and so it went on. A few reasonable legs (not mine) - but people who were walking were navigating much better than me - so we were comparable and hence sort of formed a train at times - all 4 of us. I tried to ignore them - but if we all take a bearing and choose the same route choice it's a bit hard. Insult came as Joy G sailed past me on the way to #8 and then unkindly at the Finish was less than "supportive". The post mortem - I think I've realised that I have to be positive, not over confident, just at least positive. My running when I don't HAVE to just doesn't come - I'm falling back into a brisk walk - probably adrenalin will help in competition, but I have long used club events as training anyway. Great courses set by Justin S - loved the well control - was really worth the whole event to go there - and loved that he wanted it to be the water drop too - he he.
Very disappointed about the dog on loose on the course - but glad it was acknowledged as inappropriate. Big numbers, despite a few regulars absent. Lots of Sydneysiders looking for an event helped the numbers.
Edit: Route Gadget claims i lost 2:29 - what a joke. Personally I know I lost at least 8 minutes on mistakes and a slowness of reasonable 5 minutes. Still far from good enough - maybe my walking is getting faster - but certainly my running isn't.
Edit: Monday morning - the really disappointing thing is that I actually don't care when I do badly - probably because it's not a near miss.

walking (Course following and cont) 3:00:00 [2]

The first of the season's club coaching sessions aimed at Easy to Moderate but allowing for newcomers as well. The day started off overcast and coolish and NO mossies. Area was muddy and clayey so decided to wear old O shoes to save joggers from complete ruin. But didn't need to tape ankles as wasn't running; hence feet slopped around inside and the hard heel backing started to rub on my heel pretty quickly. This won't be good. Trailed 2 newcomers on the Very Easy course for first 5 controls then headed to Finish to wait but then decided to meet them near the end and point out a couple of important features. Then a bit more discussion and they went out on the Easy course - again I met them near the end. All good. So then to tackle 3 of the Moderate course controls using different techniques. They progressed quite well through all the skills and will go well. Hope to see them again. Then time for control collection in warmer and clearer weather- getting 11 of the nearer ones in - still boggy, heel getting sorer and sorer and shoes getting gluggier and gluggier. Back is very tight still after Wednesday's Kettle Ball activities. I thought it would have eased up by now.
Great coaching activities from Club Coach - good to be able to offer personal instruction.

stretching 10:00 [1]

A bit last night and a bit now trying to loosen back up via the legs.
9 AM

gym class (Body Sculpt) 1:00:00 [4]

Could easily wimped out - not feeling quite awake but so pleased I went (as if I would REALLY miss one of these great classes). Focus was a strength, but with back still reminding me of my heroics on Wednesday I opted for a working weight rather than a pushing weight. Shoulders still well below par.
Back still a bit tender but nothing to worry about.
4 PM

Bike 50:00 [3]

Well this was fun. I was stood up on gym date by junior who had a feeble excuse (phoned in from near the "facilities" which he has had a nodding acquaintance with over the past few days. Say no more).
Spied on the Hi Energy class which I've always steered clear of - I know how manic the instructor is. But it didn't seem all that different from the morning class so if circumstances occur might give it a go - reluctantly.

Note

A wet toddle around Myuna Bay S+R Camp. What a delightful place - so new and spacious. People staying there later in the year should love it. Mixed feelings about the program being designed though.

gym class (Cross Trainer) 1:00:00 [4]

I've rejoined the ranks of S&M group - officially a glorious agony session. Makes up for no Wednesday Park or Street event. Methinks I will be very sore tomorrow.
7 PM

Park Series (Night champs) 31:34 [3] 2.9 km (10:53 / km)

Loved it - really enjoyed this event. Possible my 3rd or 4th night event but felt really safe - and so I should - I've set so many courses here for daytime! Best parts: no mossies, did about 75% of course with no torch using houselights, street light and the clarity of the park paths, only needing a few bits in the "denser" bush sections. Night vision was really good, so it must be the twilight that is my problem. A great course set by Malcolm on another rockman hybrid map. Not sure of turnout but those who came had fun.
Lost about 2 mins on #1 - d'oh - but realised later that the reflectors attached weren't reflecting so my running past #1, which was actually hidden behind a tree, was inevitable. So upon realising this i determined I would know where every control was - and not expect to see a shine. Losing initial time allowed the next 3 to catch me up - but course let us use route choice so wasn't altogether a peloton. A few spots of rain added to the night too.
Was probably a good thing to have a late run - certainly feeling the effects of the past 2 days at gym - good thing tomorrow will have to be a rest day due to S+R meeting.

9 AM

gym class (Shape and tone) 50:00 [3]
slept:6.0

I made it all the way through legs - yiha! Possibly a 3.5 class and not through difficulty on my part. Knees felt a bit odd at the start - only can be the result of yesterday's Pump class squats - on the top. No residual feeling from nasty stretch from slip and almost fall from Saturday which was pretty scary at the time.
4 PM

gym class (Fat Burner) 1:00:00 [3]

I think this class will be changing its designation at the start of April yet another craze that is sweeping the fitness industry - how long will this one last? Knees just a little bit tender so didn't try high impact but stuck out all the legs section.

stretching 8:00 [1]

Vain attempt but a start.

Note

It has always been annoying to hear primarily Victorians mispronounce the letter "e" eg Malbourne. But tonight the instructor cracked a beauty - "Don't let your albows go below the bench." Perlease!!!
4 PM

gym class (Body Pump) 55:00 [3]

Didn't expect to escape the clutches of Dr in time to get to this class so was pleased when I did. Upped weight and arms were wobbly for a bit so i guess that's good.
