Loppet Skate marathon.

Great day in great conditions. It was a little slow, but my main worry prior to the weekend was snow cover, and that wasn't an issue.

I started well, but was having a hard time staying over my skis. Trying to hard??? I was with the top 15 or so in my wave, but slowly attritted positions over the course of the race.

Hill descents were easy enough. Snow was a little slow and easy to carve, so no cornering issues. I did get a little on my heals coming down to the bridge over Wirth Parkway I thought I was going to eat it and not even get on the front nine.

Felt a little tired already half way through the back, and never fully recovered. I guess I must have been keeping my HR at it's limit.

Butler and Bog were hard, but not terrible. I caught a groove in the ice coming up to the bridge on the south side of LOI. Went down, popped back up, but my abs and left tricep started cramping and going in to spasms... toughed out the last K for my best average time in a ski race so far. :-)

11 minutes off of my last COLL.

Julia and I, setting controls for the ski-o. Control setting for this is a lot different than the foot-o setting we are used to. Borrow a 4' wide tote sled from the Loppet Org. Load it with sandbags, tools, and snacks. Drive it across town. Park in a neighborhood and drag the sled across the pavement for 100 meters in to the park. Use the sled to "set" trail for all of the side trails used for walking, or to just make trails across open areas. Stop, use a drill to create a 3/8" hole to place the control stands. mark it with a flag and florescent chalk, and repeat... A lot of sled dragging.... Good times. I think the temp topped out at about 7 degrees, but we were stripping off layers.

Argh.... we are te last place team with two points. We played the only team we can surpass in points, who had three. We blew it. They got one good goal, one own goal, and another stopable goal. We had two highlight reel goals... one by yours truly, but could not overcome. They now have six points... and are likely out of our reach.

Tough game for Cooters Garage. but we will take a 2-0 win any day. Both goals were a little soft, but I ain't complaining. Everyone played solid. Sadly, our leading goal scorer twisted his knee. hopefully he just needs a little couch time.
