Orienteering race (Possum Trot) 2:31:06 [4] *** 20.0 km (7:33 / km) +1500ft 6:47 / km
spiked:29/32c shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Pretty good run for me with respect to navigation. I think I was worse off during the group follow session for the first 4 controls. That ended at #4 when I followed the group to a Cluster F*** that lost me 9 places. It was a real opportunity for me to gain spots, but I screwed up and trusted the untrustworthy... Frustrated by this, I took an early skip #6, which was a poor choice in hindsight. I did some pretty good nav from 7 through the finish, but started wearing down after 22. Gutted it out to the end, but I was moving slow.... Ended up 12th, a repeat of my last P trot. The next finisher was 12 minutes back.

MNOC had a great weekend. 6 of 12 spots on the podium Saturday and 4 of six spots on the podium Sunday.

Easy warm up with Dave Swanson and Erin Binder. A little campus tour.

Orienteering race 24:22 intensity: (1:13 @0) + (20 @2) + (1:45 @3) + (18:41 @4) + (2:23 @5) *** 2.67 mi (9:08 / mi) +327ft 8:11 / mi

Great run on the U of Kansas campus. A lot of hills and stairs to negotiate. I felt I ran it pretty clean, but did have a few bobbles. The scale was so small, you really had to pay attention on the short legs to avoid over-running, which I did on one control.

Performed reasonably well. I think I was in the top 6 overall, and 2nd in the over 40 crowd.

Soccer 55:00 [3]

Seagate Soccer. Andrei had a bye week. He showed up and played 5-10 minutes for us, then the rest for the other team (although their subs finally showed, so he didn't play much.)

We finally notched a win. 2-1 I think we finally figured out roster assignments that will give us the best chance at being competitive. I got my first goal of the year. Almost got a second late, but it clanged off the post.

XC Skiing 1:35:00 [3]

First skate on snow. Cold... I have to remember to dress warmer on Tuesdays as we do drills and there is a bit of standing around.

I warmed up by skating the big hill at theo three times. Balance and technique are off. We skated in circles for about 5 minutes, then did the hokey pokey (seriously) on skis. great balance drill.

We did some more circles, no poles, then divided into three groups. Double pole, single pole, and crunch pole. 6 legs of each. No pole hill climbs, tuck practice back down the hill 3 legs, then no pole slalom (kind of a stationary fartlek where the last person weaves in-between the other skiers. V1 to the top with poles twice and call it a night.

Did I mention it was cold?

All my weights went up.... I can't decide if that is good or bad. Now pressing 280 on the sled. Definitely tired this AM.

Soccer 50:00 [3]

Monday night league with MoBiz. Another tough match, made so by our lack of subs, we just wore down and lost the crispness to our passes. A 3-1 victory to keep our winning streak alive. 5-0!!!

Met up with Kyle Peter, GJ, and Mobiz post game for good talk on Tazmania and Patagonia.
