Trail/woods running 34:50 intensity: (4:50 @1) + (25:00 @2) + (5:00 @3) 2.13 mi (16:21 / mi) +33m 15:36 / mi

Leddy Park with Mocha, 28F. She got to stay inside (vs. the car last night) in Jenn's modest house - which already has 3 dogs, 2 puppies, 3 basement cats & 2 kids plus Bob & Beth . As I thought about it, it seemed almost essential given her somewhat precarious age. Gorgeous morning. Burned a few calories but not many at all in past week - too much running around of the wrong kind, Cape Cod To Burlington.

Back to Shelburne Museum this morning and then bye to Bruce, my Wyoming cowboy college roommate. Vermont mountains looked very nice: Mansfield and Camel's Hump were white-capped.

Mountains from the entrance to Shelburne museum.

Walking 45:00 [1] 1.5 mi (30:00 / mi)

More archival stuff - with Beth and Bruce on the Shelburne museum grounds in VT. Downright cold/windy today with snow showers at times. Back tomorrow as today's visit was too late/short. Wanted something more but drive time and socializing took away any opportunity.

Walking 30:00 [1] 1.3 mi (23:05 / mi)

Walked Nottingcook loop with Mocha just before 6p. Raw day, 45F cold. Noted a young woman on South Street on way to work this morning in singlet and shorts whereas everyone else I saw looked pretty much bolstered against the cold.

Picked up OLLI streamers & 2 signs. I was asked if I'd do map & compass again in the spring. I've never enough time but on the other hand have trouble saying no.

At the current bonfire site: 3 plastic chairs and 10 cans Redd's Apple Ale (5% alcohol), 2 bottles alcoholic tea and a new supply of pallets for fires.

A deer darted in front of us on leaving. Be fast/facile, stay alive. Not our rules.

Woke up in bed this morning versus the tent of the past two Saturday mornings and found that perfectly agreeable. I’ve always had an eye on the Hudson Highlander but it was my turn for call, somewhat of a relief as three consecutive weekends orienteering is a bit much. Maybe if we lived in MA, more in the center of the orienteering activities, it'd be a bit different - less road miles. But for the 70th year, I should go out of my way to 'celebrate' with peers such as Charlie, Phil, Sharon, maybe Peter.

Walking 40:00 [1] 1.8 mi (22:13 / mi)

SPS after work - down to the water for some exercise & taking note of marvelous fall color. Worn out from yesterday's boat moving, mainly the car driving.

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.7 mi (28:34 / mi)

For the archives: on Bull Island at Hadley's Harbor. Many years since last visit to Hadley's but think it was since 2000. BI is a tiny sample of Naushon/Elizabeth beauty. The last time we were ashore on Naushon (permission req'd) was October, 1984. Time for a repeat, 2016? Then over to Mattapoisett with no time for "energy expenditure" other than rowing.

Road running 41:00 [2] 4.1 mi (10:00 / mi)

From Falmouth RR mile #5 to Woods Hole where I met Beth. Cut to the bike path asap. Strong southerly wind, great views of Martha's Vineyard and Sound.

Note

Sunday's #5 - a puzzle but less so. 305 clearly points out where I was. It must have been a 90 degree compass error for unclear reason - no wall etc for MN confusion. When I returned to the area the second time Sunday, the AP I took (from the paired knolls to the south) looked much like the one I originally took although it was not. And just before the flag knoll was a trickle, although evidently not mapped. And the knoll I scoured looked so much the same although it was oriented slightly differently. The relocation was "pulled out of a hat" when encountering three large boulders.
