Note

Went to bed at 8.30pm last night. Got up at 2.30 for half an hour and ate some cereal. Got up again at 8am. Could easily have slept more.

Note

Uploading GPS to RG on a mac... what seems to work is - get to the browse for gpx file page, quit firefox saving tabs, so it's easy to relaod the page without going through the rg page. Then upload the gpx file... but now I have to do something like change tabs to get the image to refresh when I do something...
very frustrating.

orienteering race 1:33:00 [4] 9.8 km (9:29 / km)
ahr:167 max:184 21c

US Classic Champs day 2
Garmin dist 11.4km

Made a parallel error coming in towards 2 and took way too long to recover.

14 was annoying. I ran right to the hilltop, stood on it, no control, stood on the SE edge of what I considered the hilltop, no control. For me, the control was down a contour on the slope... so I ran away and came back later... losing at least a minute and a half. Then on the way to 15 I found a big swathe of unmapped green.

Not particularly smooth, but no major mistakes apart from those two. Not reading the map well enough, wasn't running hard enough nor thinking aggressively enough to challenge for 2nd (1st was out of reach). I hope somebody took the around route to 9. If executed correctly, it can't have been much worse.

Being woken at 4:15 and then every five minutes until 4:50 by an alarm probably wasn't the best preparation.

Terrain is fantastic, map is more LIDAR than fieldwork (a little harsh, evidently a lot of work went into it, but there were errors and omissions). I still love the map, just it could be better.

I have succeeded in getting Day 2's Routegadget up after numerous battles. Currently trying to get day 1 up.
It seems Mac and Java don't get along. The map loads, then I try to upload the gps, the gps loads but the map no longer exists. Some combination of quitting, reloading etc managed to get it to work , but I forgot the order. Help!

trail run warm up/down 15:00 [2]

orienteering race 1:15:57 [4] 9.3 km (8:10 / km)
ahr:183 max:192 22c

US Classic Champs Day 1
Moreau Lake State Park
upstate NY

Wonderful terrain, such a pleasure to run through.

Ran well, have to analyse the mistakes later, but there was a biggish one at 7, and a couple of bobbles, less than two minutes total I guess. Impressed with Ross' time. Surprised there was only Sergei Z between us.

Wasn't tired at the finish, but had a reasonable AHR. Still have to run a race with it up closer to 190 again.

Good times!

Garmin distance, 9.3km!? It lost reception a bit before the end, right near the ginormous unmapped cliff.

Interesting story from Radiolab about animals sleeping one hemisphere at a time. Too cool.

and ex bike,
while entertaining myself with Oxford quantum physics lectures courtesy of itunes u.
Nice to delve a bit deeper than wonderful radiolab for a change. The mathematics, up to lecture two at least, is straightforward. The physics, on the other hand, is physics.
