Orienteering race 34:46 [4] *** 3.3 km (10:32 / km) +125m 8:51 / km
spiked:14/16c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Buffalo O-Fest Middle Distance at Hunter's Creek Park. Green-X course. Good course with lots of short legs in an area with a heavy trail network and plenty of detail. Lost about 2 - 2.5 minutes on #13 when I lost contact and couldn't relocate quickly. Checked another bag on the way to 5 which cost 15 sec or so. 6th overall on Green-X, 2nd on M-55 by 45 sec. Humid with sprinkles and about 70F. Very good organization by BFLO for the entire weekend.

Orienteering race 16:24 [5] *** 2.5 km (6:34 / km) +50m 5:58 / km

Buffalo O-Fest Sprint at Emery Park. Course 3, M21. Mostly open park running with three of the early controls in the woods. Lost about 30 sec on #3 checking out another (unmapped?) rootstock but otherwise clean. Lots of fast running with the last four controls downhill on a ski slope. Fun course by Dave Cady. Breezy and sprinkles at the start but the possible thunderstorm fortunately didn't happen. Only ahead of 2 M21's and about mid-pack among all the runners on Course 3 (Red and Blue).

Event: Billygoat

Orienteering race 1:56:52 [4] *** 10.7 mi (10:55 / mi) +305m 10:02 / mi
spiked:18/22c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Billygoat at Nottingcook Forest, Bow, NH.

Finished 32nd, I think tie with last year for highest finish place for me. Under 2 hrs for the first time, bestnig my previous fastest Billygoat time by over 15 min. Course was a bit short with winning time at 80min but well designed and lots of fun. Was with others for much of the course up until the 2nd aid station (#14), then did 15 to the finish mostly on my own, but did see others over that stretch. Lost 3 min on 16 and another minute on 20 (saw PG on the way to 20 but didn't follow him - D'oh). Was with Jeff Shapiro of and on through 12, I think he got past me as I bobbled 16, then caught him just after 21 and out raced him to the finish. Weather was just about perfect with temps in the upper 50's and a breeze to keep the bugs away.

Thanks to Bob Lux, Jim Arsenault, and the whole support crew for making the event possible.
