Orienteering race 41:38 [5] *** 4.17 km (9:59 / km) +210m 7:59 / km
spiked:14/16c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Leg 4 for 12pt teams at US Relay Champs (Osbornedale SP map). Very good run with about 30 seconds lost on each of #7 and #8. Started about 9 minutes behind the 3rd place HVO team and managed to catch them just before the spectator control to bring the EMPO team to the podium. Woohoo! A really fine course by PG with lots of rocks, lots of climb and plenty of variety.

Orienteering race 15:46 [5] *** 1.71 km (9:13 / km) +33m 8:25 / km
spiked:9/12c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Sprint A on Course 2 (OBG). Probably lost about a total of a minute on small misses on three controls (4,5, and 8). Things sure come up fast at 1:4000. Tied with Dean Sturtevant for fastest M50. Fourth overall for the course. Lots of West Pointers out there running really fast and then trying to figure out where they were. :-)

Orienteering race 13:53 [5] *** 1.83 km (7:35 / km) +40m 6:50 / km
spiked:10/10c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Sprint B on Course 2 (OBG). A good run, helped somewhat by seeing other people at or near controls on most of them Spiked the first control unassisted. First M50, fourth on the course overall and first M50 for two sprint total. Fun courses by Joe B and great organization by WCOC (and by PG).

Orienteering race 21:43 intensity: (12:43 @4) + (9:00 @5) *** 3.15 km (6:54 / km) +33m 6:33 / km
spiked:17/21c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Sprint C - All Comers Race. Mass start with three loops done in different orders (I had variation 6). Good thing this race didn't count for rankings. Made several mental errors (started on wrong loop first, misread a control description, thought I was headed to #13 when I was going to #14). Probably could've been about two minutes faster. Didn't push too hard until I started the last loop about 10 seconds behind Charlie and Susie Dewitt was just behind me. Passed Charlie and then gave the lead back by making a mistake. Had to run him down in front of the heckling spectators. :-) A really fun and well designed course.

Trail Run 48:30 [3] 4.8 mi (10:06 / mi)
shoes: NB 809

At Hand Hollow Preserve. Wonderful day for a run - 60's and sunny. Did most of the trails including a new one which has been de-vegetated (i.e. brush-hogged) but isn't marked as official yet. Much work has been done on the other trails since I was last here, removing rocks and roots (or filling in over them). They've even rerouted some trails where the roots were too numerous/difficult to remove. Someone has way too much time (and I believe some landscaping toys). The trails are nice to run on, but where's the challenge? I suppose most members of the Columbia Land Conservancy don't want to be too AOWN. At least nothing has been paved. :-)
