Orienteering 4:35:00 [4] 16.0 mi (17:11 / mi)
Boonecrusher AR 12-hour at Seven Oaks in Boone, Iowa with Tom, Erl, and Kelly.
Another great event put together by 41 North Racing.
Our crew pushed well the whole time. No significant nav errors kept us moving smoothly through the race. Our only major hiccups were five flat tires during the course, which I would take over a derailleur malfunction anytime. We borrowed an extra tube from some awesome MN AR friends, which unfortunately left them short in the end. The Gnome Hunters had a great race and came up on some unfortunate luck, which I was super bummed about. Good job by them to keep at it and get home in time!
A few highlights of the race were:
- Awesome single track section handled deftly by my abled crew. They stepped up to the plate on the gnarliest section of the race and held there own.
- Orienteering in Ledges State Park. This place had some awesome bluff views and the course had us going up and over most of them.
- Paddling section. Now I don't normally consider the paddling section a fun part of the race, but with the downstream current I was happy to get out on the water after not paddling for a few months. Lakes have finally unfrozen in MN, so looking forward to getting out more often.
- Teammates. Lots of load sharing, pushing, pulling, and encouragement. I can't say enough about how this helps the team move forward more efficiently (and faster as a whole) toward the finish line. Great effort all around.
