Running long 1:45:00 [4]

Hmm, this hurt. Although it hurts more Monday morning typing this.

Went for a long run with Michael's Pace and Mind running group. Left from MaRS north through Forest Hill (wow some serious houses there) and then onto the Beltline east to Brickworks and then south through the Don.

Started with the fast group and then eased back to the slower one. Not bad considering how little running I've been doing. Really warm for Jan.

Note

Why is it that so much surrounding the US National Team appears to be done on the back of an envelope? Super strange....

Cross-country skiing (skating) 2:00:00 [2]

Really nice skate ski from P7. Back and forth on Ridge for a while, then to Champlain and back on Burma.

After that, waxing and sauna at Karl and Megan's place. Now I can use the good skis!

Cross-country skiing (skating) 2:00:00 [1]

Really really nice skate ski on a great day in the Gats.

Note

I coached Ember Large in Edmonton, she's a great young skier and great athlete to coach. Also this deadly quote:

"I'm pretty stoked on my result in the sprint"

Running 45:00 [2]

Since I don't have a functioning sports watch right now, not sure of the length, but this sounds about right. Felt pretty good doing The Loop, but I'm sure the slow trails in the snow helped.

Cross-country skiing (Skating) 1:00:00 [3]

Well that sucked and I think maybe something is up? Was to be 30 sec intervals with 30 recovery along the parkway. Should be a good workout. Well felt find in the warm-up but lasted well under a third of the intervals and I was totally toast. Pulled the plug and skied back. Lack of sleep? De-hydrated? Just out of shape? Don't understand it.

Also, time to break out to good skate skis for the stiffness on the Parkways.

O thought of the night: Would Dave and Lise accept a trip to Europe to make an O movie for Best of Banff?

Cross-country skiing (Classic) 2:00:00 [2]

Classic ski from Asticou, really nice conditions, decent grooming (great on the parkways because of course the parkways are perfectly groomed).

Skied out to Pink Lake loop, ran into Dave Brownie and Ivanna and skied with them a while. Then had to hammer back on the parkway to Asticou as I was late. My god hammering on the Parkways is boring....

Ottawa AGM that night. I'll write more in a bit, but I was quite pleased with how my pumpkin pie turned out.

Cross-country skiing (classic) 1:30:00 [2]

Classic ski with friends pretty new to Nordic so went to mega exciting P8 and skied on the Doldrums. Tried to do some minor intensity, but mostly just kinda skiing.

Then, really good lunch at the Chelsea Pub. Man that place has picked up the quality.

Also, renting gear for friends at local ski shop in Ottawa. Excellent display of young dudes working at ski shop and mediocre service. Yes, I know, everyone hates doing rentals, but these are potential sales down the road if you do a good job.

Cross-country skiing (classic) 1:15:00 [1]

Classic ski on ungroomed Ridge Road from P7 with Chris. Had to use good skis, hope I didn't damage as I think was a bit thin in spots, but probably just ice.

Note

Trivia time!

I spent some of Sunday reading old copies of Orienteering Canada looking for out of date Quebec maps and I discovered a wee note.

For which WOC did a Canadian province contemplate making a bid?

Telemark/Alpine 1:00:00 [1]

After a mega late start to the day, first tele skiing of the year! Went to Mtn-ste-Marie for a half day of skiing. Conditions weren't too bad actually, not too much rain compared to everywhere else. Obviously they need way more snow, but I've skied on worse.

Cross-country skiing (Skate) 1:00:00 [1]

Ski after work.

Nice and warm, fast snow. But time to wax this skis up!

Cross-country skiing (skating) 1:15:00 [3]

La Femme talked me into going to my first Dave's Ski Training on the Doldrums.. Had a lot of fun actually even though late WEF requests meant I showed up late.

Tale of two workouts: first half felt pretty good, uphill partner skate intervals. Then double pole ones which confirm my double pole is not good.

Then as a cool down was just skiing the Doldrums and man I totally hit the wall. I'm blaming eating just before the workout for the reason. Possibly lack of water today as well, but crawled back.

Also, time to wax some skis! Hope to get some LF layers on this weekend to speed things up. Also, might be the year for new skate boost and would love, love a new pair of skate poles.

Running 50:00 [3]

First run of the year in the Don Valley!
Great NYE last night at the Horseshoe seeing the Sadies. Robyn Hitchcock opened. He's still quirky and sort of annoying.
