Running warm up/down 30:00 [1]

Nasty traffic getting to Chelsea, there must be a short-cut somehow to get around Hull.

Then up there Dave's doing this intro to Trail Running with lots of drills and lots of strange jumping around stuff to tell people about this new and exciting sport called Trail Running!

I just wanted to go for a run.

Running 44:00 [2]

Hey would you look at that, Nicky showed up late and just wanted to just go for a run.

Was really humid out, felt pretty blah out there. Ran from Fortune parking lot as far as the top of the Cyber Pass and back.

Running race 42:27 [5]

National Capital Race 10km

A tale of two races in one. Had I quit at the 5 km mark with my split of 19:37 I would have been really happy with my race.

Sadly, the second half of the race did not go well. I started the race with the 40:00 pace bunny and evidently he was way fast over the first few km which came back to haunt me.

The goal was around 40 so I guess I should be happy enough considering my total lack of intensity workouts, but I like the idea of running some faster 5kms over the next while to drop that time.

Running intervals 1:00:00 [3]

First time out with the OOC running group for some intensity. Legs felt ok, although everything is tight today.

Combination of some terrain speed running, a 1+km loop of the park and then some longer sprints in the taller grass and paths near the transitway.

As per usual, running intervals on even the slightest uneven ground made me feel like my form totally falls apart.

Note

CCC's hosting 2 Nordic World Cups in Dec 2012. Quebec City and Canmore.

http://www.cccski.com/main.asp?cmd=doc&ID=8281&lan...

Sounds like the Quebec City will be sprints, probably on the Plains of Abraham course. Very cool. Dec is a cold month though, expect at least one race to be cancelled and lots of Euro complaining about it being below -10. Early season waxing in eastern Canada is also really tricky.

Paging the US Ski Federation. Anytime you'd like to step up to the plate and host some WC's would be a nice start.

Running 55:00 [3]

Chelsea Tues Night Training, a hard workout to log. Starting from the Visitor Centre Dave had us doing loops of the packed gravel trail near there, going from a slow pace to quite a quick one. Total running time (including super slow warm-up and cool down was 55. The hard pace was pretty quick in the middle and I felt ok, could have pushed a bit harder.

Dave being Dave was being all coy about how many laps we were doing. I wonder what would happen if some mega fast guys or girls randomly showed up and dropped him?

Running 45:00 [1]

Run down by the river after getting back from Montreal. Leg not enjoying the driving at all this weekend.

Note

Just a lovely day in the rain in Ottawa.

This looks like it could be a very interesting ranking, always good to have a mixture of American and "international" athletes. Someone like Yu Darvish is going to move up the list fast when he moves to MLB. (He also has awesome hair I remember).

http://www.sportspromedia.com/sportspro_blog/usain...

Is there a top marketed North American Orienteer? Current or ever?

If I was looking to sponsor NA Orienteers I'd pick (without giving names):
1) a guy in Ottawa until the fall
2) An guy with a funny accent in Southern Ontario
3) a girl on the US Ski-O team (maybe not who you think)

Cycling 30:00 [3]

Don't usually log commuting, but this was a hammer-fest getting to and from phsyio and Martin Z.

No tears or passing out, but felt close at times as he was digging deep into the periformis.

Running 45:00 [1]

Lowlight of Tuesday: spilling a full glass of wine on a decent light blue shirt. Rush home, change, get back to event and decided not to count as intervals.

Highlight of Tuesday: maybe being offered a job while crossing the street in downtown Ottawa (ran into someone I met putting on the original Ottawa Adventure Run). Then went to the Rideau Club where the GG Johnston walked by me twice as I was there to hear Bill Graham interviewed by Don Newman.

Lowlight of Tuesday: the attempt at training. Went to Frank Ryan park for the OOC workout and waited, waited and waited. Sadly my BB wasn't working and eventually gave up (later found it was moved to Thurs). Went for a run down by the river and calves felt crazy tight. Not a fun night.

Running 55:00 [1]

Very slow gentle run down by the Ottawa River, on both the Hull and Ottawa side. All pavement, which I should mix in now and then. Hamstring was not happy about this run at all.

Also, as Freddy says: training slow teaches you how to race slow.

Did some running through downtown Hull. Some nice wee houses there.

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Run in the Gats (P7) just a wee one after finally summer waxing my skis at Karl and Megans.

MEC Gear Swap in the morning, picked up a few things including a running pack for $15.

Note

Interesting interview with Peter Snell.

http://www.garycohenrunning.com/Interviews/Snell.a...

Mentions Orienteering a few times.

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Chelsea run with the Tues Night Group. Felt mega tired in the legs with a sore left shin and still with the right leg issue too.

Ran with Freddy the whole time, pretty rough course by Dave, some people not thrilled. Was hard to get a solid pace going.

Orienteering Race race 13:05 [5] *** 1.5 km (8:43 / km)
spiked:3/7c

Prologue for the Chase Meet.

Almost didn't go today because of how bad the legs felt on Saturday, but super glad I did.

Went way too gentle and passive for this, taking too safe of routes and not pushing hard enough.

Some awesome woods here at this time of year.

Orienteering Race 44:15 [5] ***
21c

Super fun race and best I've felt Orienteering in a long time. On the way to #2 caught Frederic Bedard and Alex T. We were on the wrong hill for #2 and James had caught us which established a pack of 3 for the rest of the race.

Felt ok the rest of the race, hamstring really tender on the road for the long leg. Felt fine in the woods.

At 15 I caught a glimpse of Alex B and Randy and pressed a bit and messed up 15. Had to put my head down and hammer to 16 to catch back up to James and Frederic. By 19 we were with Randy and Alex and knew that it was going to be tight for the finish.

Punched 20 second and on way to 21 James and I picked the wrong exit out of the parking lot which put Alex in the lead. I punched the last control second, but caught my map on the control and went back to grab it for some reason, letting Frederic get ahead of me.

Great course and day by Robbie and Eric Kemp. Super fun to be running with James and Frederic as well.

Running 1:00:00 [1]

Very poor run in the Gats from P7 with RPL. He felt great, but I felt just blah.

Leg is hurtin, especially driving.

Note

Just awful news. I think I only met Danny once at a party, but certainly know many who trained with him.

Yoga 1:30:00 [1]

Runner's Yoga at Rama Lotus with Tania.

Can't remember the last time I did yoga. Pretty solid class, although at $18 I'm not sure how often I'll go.

Will either feel way better or much worse tomorrow.

Feel awful about Danny Kassap:

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Wolf Trail with the Natural Lab Fitness group. Very big group out.

Went out slowly with Freddy and then just hammered the second half of the loop and finished with I think the front dudes.

Felt awesome. It was also very downhill. And good chance I'm going to be limping tomorrow as the drive home was painful as I think I officially have some sciatic issues.
