Orienteering 32:04 [2] 1.9 km (16:53 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 300

Jogged along with Kate on the VE. She did all of the decision making and completed the course really well. We had a chat about some new things on the map, like a long ditch line, and we had a great time walking beside the stream in full flow, complete with waterfalls.

Orienteering 1:22:08 [4] 8.94 km (9:11 / km) +196m 8:17 / km

Couldn't see a better way of doing #1 than gun barrel straight, so I gave that a go. Kept picking up my line along the way and pretty much nailed the control. Went past #2 a bit but picked it up well enough. Found Juffy's favourite cliff by catching a flash of orange at the right time.

#7 saw me a bit right and I couldn't pick where I was, so I wasted a few minutes in the breakaway well above the control before spotting some better rocks in the distance.

Fluffed #9 - no fault of the map/setter - I lost count of spurs and gullies on the way and wasn't sure if I was on the right spur. Then I spent some time trying to make some unmapped clearings work. Eventually pulled the pin and headed up the hill to relocate near 10 and happened across #9 on the way by pure luck.

The rest was okay. The area needs a damn good burn and for half of the rocks to be remapped as rocky ground. The course was fine, although perhaps some of the control sites could have been passed over.

No niggles from my calf, so hopefully that's all good. Never really pushed too hard (apart from the finish).

Running 34:25 [3] 6.62 km (5:12 / km)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 8

Started to do a 3km effort but got a calf twinge about 1.5km in so I backed off and jogged home. Seems to have settled through the day, so hopefully it didn't do any damage.

Running 40:30 [4] 8.31 km (4:52 / km) +27m 4:48 / km
shoes: Reebok Roadlite

Was a nice start to the run as it's starting to get light earlier and the rain hadn't started yet. I could hear sirens somewhere abouts that all seemed to be stopping near by. Turns out there was a double fat-ac on Roe Hwy. Looked like one car had smashed head on into another one. Heaps of ES vehicles and traffic was already backed up all the way back to the Fwy. Not a great day for a couple of families I suspect.

Note

Even though I haven't ridden for a while - it will be a while longer before I do as my bike got pinched from my brother's place.
