ice skating 1:05:01 [3] 8.73 km (7:27 / km)

Durand Lake had great ice for skating! Very windy but that helped blow some of the snow off the ice which was smooth with only a few bumpy parts. I wrote my name and it came out pretty good.

walking 50:00 [2]

Durand - walked around and took some pictures for a photo-O. Not quite enough snow to ski...need another 4".

Sunday Dec 29, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Walked the beach, played with Lindsay's cats, danced to the Nut Cracker, and played several strenuous rounds of hide & seek...sometimes being a grandmother is gruelling.

3 PM

Nordic Trak 1:01:00 [3]

40ยบ and the snow is almost gone...did get in a good snowman with Natalie but he won't make it past tomorrow.

10 AM

X country skiing 1:07:08 [3] 5.4 km (12:26 / km)

Harriet Hollister - figured the snow would be better there than around here but it turns out they had less. The groomer had been out but I think that was wishful thinking on his part....lots of stones and dirt bumps made skating tentative at best, downhills were downright scary. Still, love being out in the woods.

X country skiing 1:15:12 [0] 7.43 km (10:07 / km)

Durand, no grooming but where the old snow was frozen, the 2" of new powder made it really good. The small trails were pretty good since the walkers from yesterday had packed the trails down making them very skiable. The golf course was wet from all the rain and not easy to get through but the higher ground was fine.

Christmas Eve and it's snowing - woo-hoo!

X country skiing 1:05:00 [4]

Mendon Ponds south meadow.. it's getting warmer and the snow is starting to soften....still good skiing although a little slow. I doubt we'll have any more skiing for a few days at least.

12 PM

X country skiing 1:20:59 [3] 5.51 km (14:42 / km)

Durand - the groomer was just tracking the west side, got to be the first to skate it. Perfect conditions just below freezing.

Tuesday Dec 17, 2013 #

11 AM

X country skiing 1:33:54 [3] 7.79 km (12:03 / km)

Durand - another perfect day with no wind. My wrists are getting a little achy but my shoulder is holding up really well.

Monday Dec 16, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

really need a rest day and I think the snow will still be around tomorrow....baking more cookies instead.

Sunday Dec 15, 2013 #

1 PM

X country skiing 1:47:15 [3] 9.38 km (11:26 / km)

Harriette Hollister...lots of snow but the only grooming was for classic (there was a race in the morning) and some of the lower trails hadn't been done since yesterday. It was still great, no wind, perfect snow that made even the ungroomed trails fun. I think my arms are getting stronger.

Saturday Dec 14, 2013 #

3 PM

X country skiing 1:02:34 [3] 5.78 km (10:50 / km)

Durand It looked really windy, would have been easy to just stay home but once I got going it was very nice. There was about 3" of new snow so even though the groomer hadn't been out since yesterday it was still good skating. Did a bit of double poling on a couple of the narrow trails. Was hard to quit although it was getting dark.

Nordic Trak 45:00 [3]

Thursday Dec 12, 2013 #

X country skiing 1:00:00 [3]

Durand - the groomer had been out but no other skiers! There was just enough snow to make it good..could use another 6" to make it really good.

1 PM

orienteering 45:00 [2]

Ellison Park - setting out controls for the Poker-O. Unfortunately, I had to leave shortly thereafter to play a concert. Fortunately, the concert was at the Italian-American Sports Club and they serve the best ever pizza after the concert...and don't charge us for wine...woo-hoo!
