Running warm up/down (warm up) 15:00 [2]
shoes: Newbalance 767

Realistically this was some in the 767s and some in my falcons

Stretching warm up/down 20:00 [0]
shoes: Falcons

I just missed my start time so I had about 20 minutes to wait around so spent the time doing some extra stretching and some dynamic stuff just to stay loose

Orienteering race (Middle) 55:24 [3] **** 4.8 km (11:32 / km)
shoes: Falcons

This race was brutal. I haven't been training enough this winter so I'm not as fit as I would like to be. The heat also got to me a lot and I had a fairly bad race technically. If I had to pick out a positive thing from this race I'd say that I got into the race well and had a good first leg given that I haven't raced in terrain this technical in a long time (if ever perhaps :)

Orienteering race (Sprint) 18:14 [4] *** 2.8 km (6:31 / km)
shoes: Newbalance 758 Gray

The heat was exhausting at this point. I ran this race fairly well though slower than I would have liked. The race itself was fairly clean though not all of my route choices were optimal.
I was a tad slow off of the start then had a good first 3 controls. Controls 4 through 7 were in the woods on the side of the hill and I took those fairly slow to be safe. the next 3 controls were fine then I had a stupid route to 12 by going to the left and over the smaller bridge across the dam. Another poor route to 13 and I was unsure of 14 even though it was right at the boulder that I was heading for. 15, 16, 17 were good though I was feeling the heat and the speed at this point. The go control leg was a little weird and I went through the tennis courts which looking at the leg now might not be the best choice but probably wasn't too bad either.

Not too bad for a first sprint of the year.

Thanks to the kemps for a great TACO despite the rainy weather. Excellent technical training and very tough running on the rocky ground.
