O race (Goat Farm MTBO) 59:00 [3] *** 6.0 km (9:50 / km)
spiked:7/10c shoes: Pretty Myka FSR

Did the short course, and had only two controls in places I haven't been to in the past couple of weeks. Talk about home-ground advantage! Also, my plan going in was to take the flat route-choice and the biggest tracks whenever possible. I think this was a good choice.

Went straight down the hill and along the creek to 1. Or actually to 7, and then to 1 once I realised what I had done. Was still in time to see the main pack of long-course people heading out of the control.

Down to the heritage trail and up the powerline track (briefly) to 2. Clean to 3. Went in one early to 4, backed out and got it right the next time. Repeat steps to 5 as did for 2, except stay on the bike going up the slope. Also, lots more swearing - plenty of air for swearing at my stupid knee already starting to crack.

Decided to go up the hill to 6. Still not sure if that was the best choice, especially with the giant mud slide in the middle of that track. Took the first track down and it was much more overgrown and much less of a discernable track than I was expecting. Walked bits of it when the speed of 'decide what to do' was starting to get overwhelmed by the rate of 'scary things to make a decision about'.

Round the track 6 to 7, then continue along the track to whoop through the deepest part of Convict Creek (got a wash deeper than my ankles) and over to the old quarry for 8. Went the long, safe flat way to 9, feeling in total control of my location.

Zipped across the hill to the skills park, failing to note that 10 was actually on the track BELOW the skills park. Brief moment of confusion shared with ameko, then we sorted ourselves out and back to the finish.

Had a couple of shots at doing the skills loop and the bumpety-track, but my knee was screaming so hard at me I had to cut it short.

Got to get the knee / bike-fit issues sorted out.

Physio (hips/knees) 40:00 [1]
shoes: Barefoot

Two sets of shortened glute med and VMO exercises. All the stretches. Plus all the other stretches. And then some bonus stretches. And then the roller, which was not as full of woe as usual.

Also did the "Are you fit to run" tests out of the September issue of Runners World - which are all about balance, strength and flexibility. Not actual fitness to run. So my base competence at yoga more than sufficient for the balance, strength and flexibility tests done. Left hip-flexor and quad unsurprisingly not as stretchy as right hip-flexor and quad.

Swimming (club) 1:00:00 [3]

I swam and swam and swam and swam.

After we'd already swum 2km, we were supposed to be doing 100m on 2 minutes. I laughed at the optimism and then found out that I could have a 15 second rest every time. Sweet! And I'm still miles away from swimming as well as I was before I broke my wrist.
