orienteering (blue) 1:51:02 [3] 8.2 km (13:32 / km)
spiked:11/19c slept:7.0

QOC Hemlock Overlook VA. 12:30pm. Back for more, but a different course this time. Well mostly different; the blue course contained most of last nights course. Got a little careless and botched two controls which I spiked last night. Still had trouble with the leg I ran off the map on last night. Hit control ok but seemed to be something screwy with the map on the route. Could not keep my bearing and kept weaving. No wonder I got turned around last night. Got tired and ran pretty slow for the last part so time not very good.
Time includes 6 minutes lost helping to rescue someone from some bees. Heard a lot of yelling near 13 and went to investigate with Sean from Fork Union who was with me at the control. Someone had disturbed a nest and paniced after being stung several times. Sean took a sporting withdrawal to help him back to the finish and I continued on.

orienteering (pickup) 1:57:33 [2] 10.0 km (11:45 / km)

Control pickup. 4:15pm. Control pickup of the far controls. Did not want to go through the same area I messed up in twice so tried to run around the outside of the map on the roads. Not on the O map and I missed a turn and took the long way around. 2 1/2 miles just to get back onto the map and I was still a long way from the controls. So tired by the time I got into the woods that I walked a lot. After getting the bags, I still had to run back. Took the trails and woods this time.

run (road) 37:40 [2] 4.4 mi (8:34 / mi)
slept:9.0

5pm. Lee Highway to Falls Church and back. Had intended to go a lot more but as usual needed a bathroom at 2 miles so just went home.

Misset my alarm last night and woke up 15 min late for long run with DCRRC at 7am. Back to bed for good nights sleep instead. They went 17 miles.

orienteering (night) 1:41:45 [2] 4.4 km (23:07 / km)
spiked:6/12c

QOC Night-O, Hemlock Overlook VA. 8:30pm. Good start and mostly clean 1-5. Lost a lot of time on 7 when a downed tree and brush pile obscured a trail junction. Things went poorly from there. Showers just before the event had soaked the woods. Fog was rising and my glasses got wet and fogged. By 10 I could barely read my map even when held a foot away with 18 watts directly on it. Could just make out the circles. Have not been this blind on a course since the US Champs in Winona. Ran off the map then. Did it again last night but this time I was taking the safety bearing to the road. Finished with 3 poor legs. No splits since my casio died 2 weeks ago. Watch I was wearing fogged inside the display so I could not even estimate.

Square dancing (plus) 20:00 [1]
slept:4.0

At B and B. 7:40-9:30pm.
Only 4 hours sleep because I stayed up late playing Catching Features. Over 100 min on the first leg, got lost before I managed to understand the map movement commands.

run (road) 32:30 [2] 4.0 mi (8:08 / mi)

11:30pm. Lee-Graham-50 route.

track (warmup/down) 14:10 [2] 2.74 km (5:10 / km)
slept:5.5

warmup and warmdown

track (tempo intervals) 26:27 [4] 6.4 km (4:08 / km)

DCRRC track work. Washington and Lee HS. 7pm. 4 x 1600 m at tempo pace with 1 minute rest. Missed the track workouts most of the summer so expecting to be slow. Had been using 6:20 1600 (63:42 for 10mi) as my tempo pace, but thinking of moving it up to 6:28 since I have only managed 65 for 10 miles recently. Felt surprisingly good and ran faster than expected. 6:26.0, 6:24.7, 6:18.8, 6:17.2

Square dancing (plus) 15:00 [1]

Back to my normal non summer schedule. Track work followed by dancing at the Boomerangs classes. 8:15-9:30pm.
