orienteering (Karinya) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 OROC 270 blue/orange

Bailed from work right on 5pm so that I could quickly get my ankles taped and still manage to complete a course, if not before sunset then at least before it was too dark to read the map. Ran the bush sections from a couple of previous Snap Sprint Series events and this was mostly good although when I got into the long-grassed area where the old dump has been rehabilitated I felt rather like a corgi in snow, bouncing up and down without much forward progress!

Anyway, came home feeling a bit more positive about Aust Champs and celebrated with wine which I am probably going to regret. In other news, am pleased that the Queen's corgis have found someone to take them in...

running (Bridgewater) 1:13:00 [3] 11.5 km (6:21 / km)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 23

Tingling with fatigue from scalp to fingertips to toes, but was mostly ok for the Bowling Green loop with Bridget, Simon & Mitchell, although I sloweed riiigght dooown going up hills because someone had spread treacle all over them. Had been a bit sad, after seeing the Pittwater maps/courses online last night, not to have gone to the Tas middle distance champs this weekend, but Bridgie-run was quite a fun substitute, especially splashing through the mud - of which there was plenty (had worn old shoes for this reason) - and it was nicely sociable.

Headed via my favourite Asian Grocery on my way home and was amused by the signage on the box of Corella pears, proclaiming them to be "gorilla pears" then bemused by the Renew Placenta* brand of soap (actually a skin whitening product).

orienteering (Belair) 1:28:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon bluegreen

Unfortunately Fern's still not well enough for rogaining, so with an unscheduled although not entirely unanticipated free weekend, figured I'd try again to do some orienteering pre-Aust Champs (this was another course from Bridget's night-O training for Ethan pre-JWOC) and this time it was all going well for the first 20 minutes then the baby elephant hit a patch of treacle, and my ever-stiffer back never had the opportunity to loosen up before my knee started complaining (but I think it's a good thing that ankle wasn't as bad as knee?). Having said this, it was a lovely sunny day in the park with every little gully - and most of the trails - flowing with water, and in fact once I was up above Echo Tunnel I detoured to see the Lower Waterfall, adding a bit of distance to the nominal 6.5km course. Once I was down below again, I saw an echidna!

running (Belair night) 55:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 23

Up QJD, which never works out particularly well for me (and certainly my back, which has been stiffly tight for months on end, was rather unimpressed for the first 20 min) but then we turned off alongside the railway line and followed it all the way to the derelict platform of the old National Park Station before coming back down to Long Gully. We managed to avoid the rain pretty well but it was obviously wet enough at home that our stove's range hood is leaking thoroughly yet AGAIN (seems to happen every time rain is from the north rather than the west).

riding (Brownhill Creek) 1:00:00 [3]

Headed out on a warm morning due to tonight's forecast holding storms (and also Easter 2024 meeting) but turned around when knees had had enough.

running (Sturt Gorge) 1:12:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 21

I know, I should have gone to Nth Adl and done intervals, but legs were still very fatigued, and it was too nice a day not to go for a sneaky run in the gorge and check out the waterfall. Was a bit anxious about whether I'd be able to get across all the sets of stepping stones @creek crossings, but in fact I only dipped my toes once.
