Coulda been a better day...if I'd stuck to the original plan to run the rail trail. But no, I *needed* to explore the Thomas Iron Mining area at the north end of the of the rail trail in Hellertown. :-/
I was doing fine on the first part of rail trail, and then on a bike path that heads out along the creek (Saucon Creek, I think). I turned up into the Thomas Mine area and would have been okay if I hadn't tried to take a bike trail that led downhill on fairly loose large gravel (2-4" size rocks)...where I slipped, landed on my butt and hands (mostly the left). For some reason when I started, I didn't figure I needed my bike gloves, when in fact they would have protected me. I now have several abrasions and scratches across the palm of my left hand. :-(
After getting back onto the trail along the stream (which was scenic but hardly used), I was stung by a bee/yellow jacket, and picked up swaths of vines/sticky seeds, which I've now identified as
Japanese hop. I had picked up some of those after my run last weekend, and though I'd gotten most of the seeds out of my running shorts I didn't get all the poky things. Guess I get to go after them again.
Stuck to major trails on the way back to the car. Washed/Neosporin-ed/bandaged myself up when we got back home.
At least I got a bit of level 4 and 5 running in. Next time I'll be more conservative about my route.
