Green course (5.1 km 215m climb) at Mountain Lakes, scene of HVO's A meet last fall. It had rained overnight/early morning so conditions were cool but humid. My glasses fogged on the way to the second control and were useless...but thank goodness for my magnifier.
Very nice course by KPop, using the open woods well with some thicker-vegetation areas thrown in if you chose to go there. I did go through some barberry areas but mostly scattered and I only had to step on one plant to get through. Slowed down (not that I was going all that fast) a couple times to readjust my Active Ankle which kept wanting to twist and dig into the outside of my foot. I had difficulty recognizing the yellow ride (utility ride) and didn't use it much but figured out where I was, mostly. On the long leg (7-8) took the road and then reentrant though the saddle between 2 and 3, crossing the stream very close to the lower trail.
Lost time to 11 when I didn't really find the shelf* on the map and was too low on the hill and had to climb back up 2-3 contours. Enjoyed the gravity assisted leg from 12-13 where I could actually run. :-)
It appears HVO will get this area remapped (contours are mostly great, but other details are either overmapped or hard to see due to improper symbol size)--we saw Eric Weyman in the parking lot. Great terrain, lousy map.
* Aha...there *is* no shelf...there's a contour missing, and even if you added it back in, the index contours in that area (on the entire hill) don't work out right. If I post my map, look at where the index contour comes to an end just south of number 9.
