Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Warmed up and then did extra stretching on my right hip (flexor, etc) during transitions, as the step-touches in the warmup highlighted just how tight that area was. Ouch!

Orienteering race 1:06:42 [4] *** 5.0 km (13:20 / km) +119m 11:55 / km
spiked:10/11c slept:7.0 shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-B 2013-10

Green course, SL 4.05 km / Gorgeous day, sunny and a bit on the warm side (80F when we left mid afternoon).

Nice course by Gabor took me on a few legs I hadn't already been on in Thacher. :-) Not sure I really enjoyed the almost-1km trail run (10-11) near the end but I guess it was good training to just open up and run, something I don't so too often.

The only one I could have done better was 10 where I decided to stay in the woods rather than go directly out to a trail, run 150-175m and then cut back in to a reentrant. I ended up a bit left and had to correct.

Mud Pond Preserve in the Town of Nassau, NY.

New place, not too far from home but kinda boring. Good place if you want to run short, with hills and rooty trails. :-) It abuts one side (no longer actively used, at least on that side) of the town's landfill.

Pilates class 55:00 [2]

Weights and body weight. Fortunately not a lot of hip work; mine are still tight. Rest day tomorrow.

Pulldowns after (8).

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Class in Chatham. Quads somewhat sore (from the Stumble, still? Or Pilates yesterday?). Good class; Jen talked about having visited the Big E in Springfield on her birthday yesterday. The Big E is basically a multi-state (New England states) State Fair.

Running (dirt) (trails) 40:09 [3] ** 3.37 km (11:55 / km) +64m 10:53 / km
slept:6.5 shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-B 2013-10

Ran (and walked some) on trails at Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center. Small rolling trails with lots of roots and some rocks in places. Nice woods (mixed hardwoods including lots of beech trees). Temp around 61F (after leaving home at 68); Dyken Pond is up on the Rensselaer Plateau, at around 1625'; home is around 440'.

Added track from FR.

Pilates class 55:00 [2]
slept:7.5

Bands were the tool of choice today, which we used quite often. Good class; I may feel it tomorrow (usually don't).

Adductors and pulldowns after. Plan to exercise outside later as it's supposed to be another great weather day (sunny, high around 70F).

Note

On second thought, I think I'll put off more exercise until tomorrow to rest the legs some more. Some of the Pilates moves were hard work today.

I was somewhat dismayed by the lengths of many of the sprint courses (well, Blue's seems reasonable) at the US Champs, because I think even with a flat area 2.5 km for Brown will yield results longer than expected winning time. Even with PG running.

Also, see this discussion from the early days of US sprinting.
