Orienteering race 1:09:08 [3] ***** 4.2 km (16:28 / km) +57m 15:25 / km

Brown course at Pawtuckaway, nominally 3.6 km, designed by Ian Smith of CSU. Found out later there was a shorter "tan" option (sounds better than "silver", doesn't it?), which I might have considered since we planned to do the afternoon sprint relay. Turns out we made the relay a four-person endeavor (rather than two people alternating legs), with kadley and pbricker joining me and Glen.
Warm and sunny day, probably low 70s, so I took it slow. Thanks to a link in ndobbs' log, I had looked over Thierry's presentation on optimizing route choice by taking safe routes just yesterday and still had that in my mind. Had good attackpoints to most controls too, only hesitating on two controls. Mapping was sparse in the area around 5 (a small depression among dot knolls and large boulders) but I had seen two people coming from farther off to my left than I ought it should be and sure enough that's where the control was. To #10 I saw another flag along the route and while I didn't think I'd gone far enough I checked it anyway (burned too many to es by not checking), and it was on a small depression at the edge of my circle; just had to go a bit farther. Very nice course, and I'm glad I'm a much better orienteer than the first time I was at Pawtuckaway in 1992 (on Orange!).
EDIT: added FR track
