Orienteering race 1:10:50 [4] *** 3.2 km (22:08 / km) +85m 19:32 / km
spiked:11/13c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #3

US champs Middle Brown at Chattahoochee Bend SP

Well, except for a major brain freeze at 5, I think I did the best I could on this map. It's just that 5 was a real doozie--almost 23 minutes to Sandy's ~3. FR later will tell the sorry tale. :-)

I think #1 might have been farther from the stream than mapped, but I got there okay; slow to 2; bopped around the rocks a bit at 3 but I was in the circle. Catching up to people at 4, then I ran off down the hill towards 5 but didn't do too well recognizing things and wasted an inordinate amount of time until I finally found it. Bummed; figured I'd end up in last place. Managed to pull off second, though, by three minutes. Natalia redeemed herself by doing well in F50, I think.

Congrats to Sandy on her champs medals this weekend!

EDIT: FR shows 4.915km covered (on a 3.2km course!), 194m climb
Ugly.

US Long champs/brown F55 -- 2nd place, less than a minute behind Sandy. Amazingly, Natalia, after seeing no one else registered for the sprint yesterday, switched all weekend to green, F50 (and she didn't have fun today). She never checked beyond Friday. Two others in F55 were pretty far behind, one of them having taken 45-minutes on a leg where I took 14:xx (#6)--which was likely mismapped (and protestable, tho I didnt hear whether it was).

Both Sandy and I had errors to 2 which was a short leg but crosses marsh with medium green. I went a bit beyond 6, wandering with a number of other Brown runners but I turned back because I'd gone too far and happened to spot the bag, tho not on the west edge of green 30m from the river as mapped. Good safe route to 7 up streams. To 9 I aimed off a bit too far and ended up near the S end of the formline hill, 200m(?) off. Otherwise, I enjoyed the low relief of the mostly floodplain running.

Tomorrow is in the more detailed spur/reentrant part of the map, a ways to the east of today's River Bend map.

Sunny, fairly dry, and temps in the mid-upper 70s. FR later.

EDIT: FR = 7.165km, 70m climb

Note

Taking my Garmin 205 to US champs where I'll have it set on time mode only. No pace info available without a lot of button pushing.

(I have my "other" activity mode set up for clock/stopwatch functions only.)

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Another substitute for Mary, Ellen led the class. She was very prescriptive (read: controlling) about how to do things, what tools to use (at least three different ones were used, plus light weights), and how to lay down your weights so they wouldn't roll away. :-)

More back than my back liked, so I stopped to stretch before the rest of them. Okay now.

Fitness equipment (elliptical) 40:00 [3]

Hill interval again; 1.83mi

slept:7.0 shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 #6 - H

Down Shaker Museum Road* as far as the OC Cemetery, and back. Cool day, cloudy and low 50s.

*I wonder if they'll rename it now that the museum moved to New Lebanon? Maybe call it Sheep Farm Road. The OC Sheepherding Co. is another mile past where I turned around.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Hollan subbing for Mary. Whuf...never realized how easy Mary makes it for us. :-)

Started out with standing lunges to "warm up" the legs, so I had to modify a bit--they were stepping forward into the lunge and I had to step back to be sure my knees were stable before lunging. Seemed to be more strenghth focused and less core focused; Hollan usually teaches body sculpt classes according to the schedule.

A different sub on Thursday while Mary's in Florida this week...

Same program as usual; got HR up to 143 (according to the machine) about 20 min in. 1.6 mi.

Listened to a Freakonomics episode on bad habits and commitment programs (mostly in ref. to gambling). Need to charge iPod and download more stuff.

Adductors (75 & 70#) and pulldowns.
