Note

Took the opportunity to skip orienteering for quilts (usually orienteering takes precedence over quilts). I'd heard about this exhibit:

http://www.folkartmuseum.org/infinitevariety

...and realized it was only going to be there for a week, so planned a trip (Glen dropped me at Southeast train station off I-84 before heading to Osbornedale) to get me into the city, where I met up with my daughter-in-law, spent a couple hours with her looking at the exhibit, and then were joined by my son for dinner before we all headed back to Grand Central where I caught a train towards New Haven (they went on to karaoke with friends...). We motel-ed it overnight, and then headed to Ansonia for Sunday's handicapped race.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

No tools except light weights for triceps. A lot of down dogs at the beginning were hard on my shoulder.
11 AM

Running (track) (slow) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

Wanting to run but not on the elliptical or treadmill,'I went to the indoor track and went around and around. I didn't count laps, but at one point noted time for two (at 14/mile), which calculated to about 12 min/mi, so slow. But it didn't aggravate my hamstring. Listened to a few segments of Fresh Air, some more interesting than others.

Walking warm up/down (indoor track) 10:00 [2]

Fitness equipment (Erg) 10:00 [1]

1735m; 1000m in 5:45.

Then pull-downs, a bit easier than on Tuesday.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

In Chatham. Started with steps out and used pretty peppy music. Knees didn't bother me as they sometimes do on the step--yay! Skipped side planks as usual.

Fellow-exerciser who turned 80 last week said that her family had a party for her with about 40 guests--nice. And the exercise instructor brought fruit and chocolate-dipped strawberries.

Note

On the way up to the Y, saw a pair of great blue herons flying together. Time to set up housekeeping in the great north again!

Weight needs to start going back down!
10 AM

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Before class, I was thinking we should use balls as tools today; and she said, "Let's use balls today." ;-). Big class, though, so a few folks had to substitute (ring works almost as well for some but not all of the exercises).
11 AM

Fitness equipment (elliptical) 35:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

Level 2 again, equivalent of 2.01 miles, MHR noted was 136. Upped the time, though this gets pretty boring after about 15 minutes. Listened to the latest episode of Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me on the iPod, with guest Judy Collins.

Fitness equipment (erging) 8:07 [1]
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

On the rower again. It again switched off on me at just over 2 minutes (didn't note the distance "traveled" at that point, over 300m, I'm sure), but I started up again and went 1000m in 5:58, over a half minute faster than last time. Damper at 6.

Followed by adductors, 70 lb weights, 12x2; and lat pull-downs, which felt really hard since my right side didn't want to pull evenly with my left (sore right shoulder -- maybe from Pilates pushups? which are rather easier than regular ones, but still stress my shoulder). Forgot to do leg stretches after all these, so I hope that doesn't affect anything.

Note

GNC results are now posted [splits and RouteGadget linked from GAOC page]. Seems that I managed to hold off Shelagh for two-day total, but I was 4th of 4 women on Green Y on Sunday.

Travel day -- back to snow! :-(

My routes: (Quick Route on photo -- may post better copies when I can get the scanner to work)

Day 1

From Track jpg files

Day 2

From Track jpg files

I think my problem at 7 on day 2 was that where I crossed the stream looked like the "end" and so I angled from what was mapped as the east "end" of the stream. Of course I wandered far longer than I should have...
On 8, I think the green/slash extends farther than mapped (or I just wasn't reading it correctly). And I have no excuse for 10 -- compass, anyone?

Orienteering race 1:41:53 [4] *** 6.0 km (16:59 / km) +260m 13:57 / km
spiked:8/11c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #3

Day 2 green Y at GNC. While climb was noted at 50% more than advertised yesterday, I don't think I climbed as much, taking the 'around the deep reentrants' more often.

Good through 6 then bobbled attackpoint near 7 and wandered a bit before relocating. On 8 I took route through woods south of frisbee golf course and thought I rounded the 'green' properly but apparently followed the next gully, for a minute lost. Biggest error was 9--I crossed wide reentrant south of 8 thinking I was crossing the one east, and ran down the wrong spur! Relocated from the 4 stone pillars. Okay from there on in.

Meg P had an awesome run, under an hour today, a couple minutes behind her dad.

Monday Edit: FR said 8.8 km (AP widget says 9.08, 190m climb). No results posted yet. Weather on Sunday was SO much nicer than on Saturday, with temps around 60 and overcast. I did not feel all wiped out after running as I did Saturday (when I went in search of salt --in the form of Goldfish-- on the ride back to the motel and then went to bed early).
