Hiking hills 51:45 [3]
shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Hiked up to a "trial course" start at Moreau. 21 min to trail junction and another 30+ to the starting point that I was using in the middle of the map.

Orienteering 1:51:47 [3]
shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Glen designed a course for me using some interesting control areas. I had a little trouble with one up top (parallel error), losing a few minutes, and then quite a bit more in an area that's less well-mapped (so far) down the hill (also a parallel error, resulting from unspecific attackpoint and not confirming distance...where have I heard that before?). Fun, anyway.

Walking hills 32:12 [2] 2.0 mi (16:06 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 5

To bridge, up Alb. Tpk, and back Syring.

Today while cutting grass I discovered a toad -- no, it was a wood frog. It hopped towards the mower and didn't hop away so I stopped, backed up, and looked for it to move it out of the way. It was pretty far from the closest wetland (relative to its size), but they'll travel a ways away in damp woods.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Using weights. I can't do complete pushups but I can do dips (about 4" up and down from high plank position). Shoulder doesn't hurt any worse than it did.
11 AM

Fitness equipment (Elliptical) 20:00 [2] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

Tried the elliptical again, at higher resistance and incline than last time. I think this will work well at strengthening area around the knees without stressing them too much, as that's where I feel the effort now.

Time is an estimate--'pause' is also 'end' and I guess I touched it too long, and lost the workout summary. I know it was somewhere around 20 min.

Note

The only mail in the mailbox today was meet entries. That's a good thing. ;-)
9 AM

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Interesting twist in today's class--Jennifer handed out slips of paper with different parts of a routine written and asked us to take one and remember it. Then, instead of having us follow a typical aerobic workout sequence, she called on us in turn and added our part to the routine. Kept us all thinking (and required a good memory on her part).
2 PM

Walking 37:22 [2] 2.5 mi (14:57 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 5

South on Rt. 66. Cloudy, low 70's, humid.

Note

Skipped Pilates (and likely intervals or some other running) today because of a daytime quilt talk at my guild's meeting place about two "slice quilts" made by some local art quilters (they call themselves Capital District Textile Artists; CDTA is also the local transit authority acronym). They talked about the process to come up with templates (from photographs), and then each woman who was there talked about her slice and what techniques she used (a few used fabric paints in some or all of their section).

I would enjoy working on a project like this. I hope my guild organizes one.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]
slept:7.0

Nice, typical class. Right shoulder/upper back more sore than usual--think it's from a fall where I scraped my left forearm, but probably caught myself with right arm too.

Orienteering race (Long) 1:18:28 [3] **** 3.4 km (23:05 / km) +50m 21:30 / km
spiked:6/10c slept:6.5 shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #3

What a map! I turned it over at the start and said "whoa!" First impression is very little white; then, light green and rough open pock-marked with blue and marsh.

Apparently I never started my Forerunner (I thought I had, but it started when I finished...).

Rattled, I never really got my head around how the eastern part of the map was depicted. Used compass to get me in the right direction but couldn't match features with the map so quite unsure where I was. Got to a point about 50-60m NE of my control point on the edge of a wet area. Instead of the pond mapped I read it as a marshseveral hundred meters west. Tried to head south to trail to relocate, but when I hit a trail I couldn't match it win the map, still. Saw Sandy at some point, maybe halfway between start and 1? She'd started ~16 minutes behind me.

Once I did find 1, I still wasn't getting into the map, seeing only some features on the way to 2 actually on the map. Passed a control flag on my way to 3 and made sure to check it; wasn't mine but was recognizable as a pit--yay, there's a couple of pits right next to my line; only a little farther to go.

Next two legs were to controls 100 m or less from the road (beeline meant more light green, and more subtle features), so I ran alongside it. Managed to mess up one more control, a relatively short leg (~150-200m?), was sloppy on 7, and then finished fine. Ugh.

11th W55-64, tho I'd been in 13th when we left. Two women were dsq'd--haven't heard why. Probably could have done around 58-60 if I'd
been able to get into the map.

Not sure I'd return to this map, despite some folks' rave reviews on AP. ;-)
