Note

Hip/side better today. Guess it just needed a rest (one theory on why it was tight was all the car-riding on Wednesday).
11 AM

Running (dirt) 50:06 intensity: (22:53 @2) + (27:13 @3) 6.03 km (8:19 / km) +54m 7:57 / km
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 5

Walked to one of the closer dirt roads around here then ran (in the shade, for the most part). My knees really do not like me running on pavement, and the road shoulders aren't always wide enough to use (and then there's poison ivy to avoid).

Did a repeat of a hill climb before heading back (walking again).

I could log this as two separate efforts, but the track wouldn't correspond to the log entry. Though who really cares?

Note

Hit official O age today. :-)
10 AM

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

At the Y. Didn't tack on any other training because I woke up this morning with an extremely tight right side (obliques? Hip? Sciatica--probably not) and was having trouble moving; didn't want to aggravate any more. Will do shopping and other chores instead, if I can loosen up as the day goes on.

Hiking 2:03:13 [2] * 3.28 mi (37:34 / mi)
shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Hiked some trails with Glen at Nolde State Park south of Reading PA (we stopped in to visit Glen's parents after graduation, hiked today, home later). My FR kept losing the satellites, and his FR said we went about 1 km more than mine... We'll see what the track looks like.

Warm day, low 80s with some sun (out in the open), slight breeze.

Note

Walked to a pond at Nolde -- fish in the pond seemed attuned to humans (looking for a handout?). Glen found the snake. Haven't yet identified it, but it was mostly brown on top, lighter underneath. Looks like it had recently shed its skin as there was one very close by.

Walking hills 20:00 [1] 1.5 km (13:20 / km) +100m 10:00 / km
shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Walk to the start from parking lot near Lake Bray. Start was in field near A-meet finish (2006?).

Discovery: Two lady slippers blooming alongside the road up to start!!! Very nice.

Orienteering race 3:50:29 [3] *** 11.11 km (20:45 / km) +680m 15:53 / km
spiked:22/23c slept:7.0 shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Billygoat XXXII at Mt. Tom near Holyoke, MA. Temp in 70s and overcast, but humid. Hooked up with Valerie leaving the field at the start and we hung together for the entire race, consulting on routes and which control to skip.

Probably could have picked a better skip later in the race, but after climbing from 3-4 we didn't want to have to go down 3 contours then climb straight up to 6 so we skipped 5, taking a more gradual route up the shoulder from 4-6.

Hit the 3:30 mark on the trail between 20 and 21... By the time it came to the fork (23) we decided to backtrack and stay low to avoid the silly climb up to the left fork.

Great companion for the race. Valerie dug right in after downloading, too, to straighten out the splits and results. :-) Thanks, Val!

Good course by Phil Bricker (and mostly a one-man show, too!). Thanks to Gail and Margie who staffed the aid station when we went through.

Maybe I'll add commentary later, but for now, this is enough.

14.206 km on my Forerunner (but who knows how accurate that is).
