Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

In Chatham. Nothing to recover from; legs didn't even feel sore or tight from the weekend (either I wasn't running hard enough -- though I'm somewhat limited by my cardio system -- or I stretched enough, a possibility). :-)

Nice discussion with the trainer after class.

Running (dirt) warm up/down 8:00 [2] 0.55 km (14:33 / km)
shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

Jogging to the washroom and then to start. Washroom in building near parking had signs of cleats not permitted and I was already in my O shoes so ran to nearby buildling, then down the hill towards start.

Orienteering race (Brown long) 52:58 [4] *** 4.4 km (12:02 / km) +105m 10:45 / km
spiked:10/11c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

[Edited -- added location] Sprague Brook Park near East Aurora, NY. Did the "brown long" course which was really an orange/yellow course with one advanced leg by my estimation. The one I didn't do cleanly (# 4) was one of the "orange-ish" ones; I totally missed an obvious trail just before the rootstock and was caught by an adjacent one which went at a different angle; hesitation relocating and then also after leaving control; about 1:30 lost in total. Otherwise good routes and execution. I thought the second half of the course was very yellow-ish and was disappointed I didn't get to see more of the woods. Lots of trail running.

Sixth out of 28 overall on Brown; 1st F55 (of 5), but no Mary Jo (on green) or Sandy. :-)

Orienteering race (brown course) 37:48 [4] **** 2.8 km (13:30 / km) +110m 11:17 / km
spiked:11/11c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

Brown course at Hunters Creek Park (South End), near East Aurora (Buffalo suburb), NY. There was a 10-15 min bus ride to a remote location; some light sprinkles before and after the race, but nothing much during. Temps in the upper 60's/lower 70's until late afternoon when the front came through.

Good run on this course, though not always the best route choices. I didn't have trouble finding any so called them all spikes, but could have been cleaner on route to 6, 8, and 9... maybe a minute or two overall. Still, I ended up 2nd on the course (behind Bob Bullions) and felt good about that. First F55 (of 5).

Orienteering race (course 2 sprint) 17:26 [5] *** 2.2 km (7:55 / km) +35m 7:20 / km
spiked:14/14c shoes: VJ Falcon - size 6

Sprint was in Emery Park North, lots of parkland and a little bit of woods (but not much), plus a run down a gentle ski slope (between beginner and intermediate). I expected to do 10 min/k or slightly less, ~ 20 min, so was very pleased with my time. I don't think I could have saved much time anywhere except maybe a more direct route from 4-5 where I took the trail around instead of going straight because I was unsure of the "ruined fence" situation, but I probably wouldn't even have noticed it was there.

Of all runners on course 2 I was 43/66; first F55 (of 3, I think). Nice course!

Walking (treadmill) 12:21 [2] 0.75 mi (16:28 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

At the Y. Didn't feel like exercising at all, but got myself to the Y to walk on the treadmill ("hills" to follow). Rainy and windy outside.

Hiking hills (treadmill) 28:39 [3] 1.75 mi (16:22 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

Treadmill elevations between 4 and 7.5 %.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

In Chatham. Lots of stepping and upper body work, plus one 1-min plank (easy). It's the side ones I have trouble with (at least my right side); not while I'm doing them, but afterwards.

Note

AOWN notes -- for today, saw a coyote in the back yard before dinner. I wonder if the groundhogs have had little ones yet...

For Monday, I forgot to note that I had a close encounter with a turkey who took off and flew just past my windshield on the way home from exercise class. Good for it and me that it wasn't any slower. A second turkey took off to cross the road after I got past.
