Orienteering race (sprint) 27:45 [4] *** 2.5 km (11:06 / km)
spiked:10/10c shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 1

Much easier sprints than yesterday, on a school district campus (3 elementary schools, a middle school and a high school all in one general area) with lots of road, trail, or open field running, not much climb (only 8 contour lines between the lowest and highest points on the entire area used). No mistakes, but hard to run due to heat and humidity (80s, sunny, and sticky!).

Orienteering race (sprint) 37:53 [4] *** 3.0 km (12:38 / km)
spiked:10/10c shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 1

Second sprint on Bethel schools campus. Lots of good route choices on both this and the 1st sprint; thanks Rick (and the rest of WCOC for organizing them)!

Orienteering race (sprint) 32:11 [4] *** 1.74 mi (18:30 / mi) +65m 16:34 / mi
spiked:10/12c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 (old)

Showered on the drive down and stayed overcast for this sprint (and the next) and therefore cooler than it could have been. :-)

Sprint 35b at Sebago Beach, Harriman. I ran the most technical area sprint first and made 2 mistakes (going off in the wrong direction), but not absolutely major boo-boos, just a minute or so on #5 and about the same on #11 (wrong direction on trail), both in the same general area of the map, around the larger "clearing". Otherwise okay.

Orienteering race (sprint) 39:39 [4] *** 2.18 km (18:11 / km) +65m 15:50 / km
spiked:17/18c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 (old)

Sprint 45; actually saw people on this course. Craig W. passed me in the most intricate (interesting!) part near Seven Lakes Drive. I was unsure on #8 and checked another small dot knoll (that didn't look like a boulder) before finding the flag on another one. John F. came smoking through here at one point too.

Orienteering race (sprint) 28:25 [4] *** 1.93 km (14:43 / km) +55m 12:53 / km
spiked:14/14c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 (old)

I ran Sprint 35a last. This seems physically the easiest of the three courses. John F. came really smoking by me again between controls 7 and 8, finishing the course (which he had set) in about 10 minutes! Wow, that boy has legs (and talent)!!

Note

Another hour of pulling weeds (and digging up some stubborn ones!). About another 1.5 to 2 hours left (up top) plus about 1/2 hour on another part that needs it. Three bags of mulch down; at least 3 more to go...

Running (paved) 40:23 [4] 3.3 mi (12:14 / mi)

66N. 65-68 F (nice!) I remember when I could run this out-and-back in 33 minutes or less...

Exerc. Class 55:00 [2]

Sweated a lot, but more so because of the temperature/humidity than the workout.

Note

Purchased 3 bags of mulch today and spread them around the daylilies I have planted so far. I'll need at lesat 3 more bags before I'm done, but I have to finish weeding first. I'm giving my fingers a break today.

Walking 31:30 [2] 2.0 mi (15:45 / mi)

P.O.-route-plus to drop off some Father's Day cards to be mailed. Didn't push it (hot!).

Note

Another 1:45 or so of weeding, plus I planted the three new daylilies I purchased. Now I need to get some mulch!

Exerc. Class 55:00 [2]

Back to exercise class after a session break. Jennifer has to relocate The Firm in a few weeks because the new landlord is kicking her out after who-knows-how-many years--he wants to use the space. Bummer!

Note

In addition to exercise class (where we did pushups--something I don't usually do--that I'm feeling now), I spent 1-1/2 hours pulling weeds. I'm trying to prepare an area that isn't cut with the mower and regular fills up with "weeds" and wildflowers ready to plant with daylilies which are supposed to help keep the weeds down... It's tough work, but someone's gotta do it. :-)
