Orienteering race (Relay Orange) 32:35 [3] *** 3.1 km (10:31 / km)
shoes: Salomom XT Wings 10

US Relay Championships - 12 point team with Max, Kathleen, and Greg L. I was the lead off. I prefer to lead off because I can't stand waiting around to go out, but I don't usually do well under the pressure. So this was the perfect team for me - I was definitely the Orange leg person, and we had low expectations.

Setup was great - you could view everyone going to their first three controls as they criss crossed a rolling field. My line was off and I visited the incorrect 1st control - there were lots of them out there. Got out of full view cleanly after doing 2 & 3, and then fumbled 4 and blew 5. After that, I settled in for the remaining 10 controls being careful to know what I needed to do when coming back into the spectator area. I can't take the pressure!!

Loads of fun. Well, run meet - great infrastructure, plenty of food & drinks, announcing, festive finish chute.

O Training (Shadow Max) 26:00 [2] 1.75 mi (14:52 / mi)
shoes: Salomom XT Wings 10

Tagged off to Max (11 years old sometime this year), got a drink handed to me, then followed after him while he did the Yellow leg. All of the extra controls around the field called his name, and I didn't think I was going to be up to the task if he didn't settle in. Got 1 & 2 after visiting 6-8 controls in the area, and then he nailed the rest.

Weird being out there without a map. I wanted to keep grabbing his to see where I was, but I only did it once.

Our team finished as the 4th eligible team. It looks like Kathleen had the 2nd best Brown leg. Greg passed one team, only to be passed back right near the end by that team, and by Glen T who has had some smokin' times this spring.

O Training (Control pickup) 30:00 [2] *** 1.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
shoes: Salomom XT Wings 10

My flight out is tomorrow morning, so I stayed and picked up 5 controls in an area I had not been to earlier. This was my worst effort of the weekend, and I fretted that I was holding people up who were waiting for the controls, but I wasn't the last one in...whew!

Took a poor, very steep route choice to the first control. Found 1, 2, and apparently 4 which was close to 3. Thinking I was at 3, I looked for 4, but I couldn't find it. So, I headed to 5, and left the stands there, and went back to 4, but I couldn't find it - because I had already picked it up. Went back to 5 to start again, and I finally realized my problem. Back to 3, and back to 5, and home. This was a very hilly area, so I was feeling it when I was done.

Orienteering race (ROC Letchworth Green Y) 44:44 [3] *** 3.38 km (13:14 / km) +100m 11:32 / km
shoes: Icebugs Sky Blue

US Middle Championships at Letchworth State Park, Portageville, NY. Warmer weather than what was expected for this time of year, but it didn't really bother me.

Pleased with the run, except for the last two controls. Not huge errors, but enough fumbling around to lose 2-3 minutes. Glad that I modeled earlier.

2nd overall in F50+, a couple of minutes behind Olga R, and a little less than two minutes in front of Sandy.

Orienteering race (Sprint 2) 17:38 [3] *** 2.0 km (8:49 / km)
shoes: Salomom XT Wings 10

Afternoon sprint race, by which time it was ~80F. I wisely signed up for the 2nd start time, so it was better for me than for some others who started later.

Hoped for under 10 per km, but it was a struggle to keep pushing at times. Another pretty clean run except for briefly visiting another control nearby my control in front of an audience. I shook if off and finished strongly.

Orienteering (Model) 20:00 [2] *** 1.2 km (16:40 / km)
shoes: Salomom XT Wings 10

Walked the model with Sandy. Glad I got out to see what this technical area looked like.

Note

J-J gifted me some Peeps today - green chicks. They are deformed with their eyes being on their butts. Thanks, J-J!!

Running/Walking (Four Mile Run Trail) 43:43 intensity: (9:09 @1) + (34:34 @3) 3.7 mi (11:49 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1223

OK, so Kris is waiting for me to post so she can copy and paste my write-up into her log. If I was creative, I would put all kinds of outrageous stuff in here, so she would have to wade through it and delete the crazy stuff, but I am brain dead, so it is not to be.

Plan was to hand off epunch equipment to Kris around 7 PM, and get a run in while I was waiting for her to finish up at work.
I got side tracked with many other things, including recycling 3 months of paper and talking to Roger on Skype, so I called Kris and determined that I could twist her arm into running with me. We headed out a little before 7 PM.

Walked down the steep hill behind the house, and turned left on the Four Mile Run trail (no time). Trail is all paved, but hillier than the parallel, but similarly paved W&OD. Ran to the Glen Carlyn bathrooms (1804) and then walked to the 2.5 mile mark on the W&OD, just a little after the two trails merged, and then turned around (249). Ran (mostly) back to an alternate hill behind the house (1630), and then walked the rest of the way home through the elementary school grounds (617). Breakdown is 3434 for 3.15 miles running & 909 for .55 walking.

Another beautiful evening, with lots of people on the trails. Very nice to have company, and I hope Kris' knee (and my knee) isn't too cranky with paved miles. Excellent company as well. Thanks Kris!

Trail Run (Burke Lake) 48:30 [3] 4.5 mi (10:47 / mi)
shoes: Orange Crush (adidas)

Took Roger to Dulles for his trip to Italy. Decided last night that Burke Lake was the most reasonable choice for a run afterwards, and I followed through. Lovely late afternoon with cool temps - warm enough for shorts and short sleeve, but comfortable to run in.

It has been a while since I have done this run, and I still like it. Too bad it isn't closer to home. Lots of people out on foot or on bike, with the speedier runners closer to the time I was leaving.

I walked a couple little sections, and I didn't feel all that great running. Mostly it hurt to breathe deeply. I guess I have to get that figured out. Maybe an increased dosage of Advair for the springtime months is in order. Time wasn't as bad as I felt it would be, so I am not complaining. A couple of the half mile markers I saw: 520, 508, 508, 1040 (mile).

Walking (Burke Lake) 1:10:00 [2] 4.9 mi (14:17 / mi)
shoes: Orange Crush (adidas)

Decided that I would celebrate being a "free woman" by going around again, but there was no way I could run it. So, I walked it as fast as I could with a little thrown in at the beginning and at the end. The mile splits were 1400 1347 1332 1340. The 1332 was because I wanted to catch some ladies walking ahead of me, and I did. :)
