EX2 Adventures Race Timing: 12 Hours CM Quantico

Note

OK, technically, I didn't do any "training" today, but my hips, butt, knees, etc. say otherwise. Timed a 12 Hour MB bike race.

Low points - the nearby Johnnies were blown over during last night's storm, so I had to go about 1/4 mile for the bathroom. Well, those who know me well know that this was not insignificant. Hmmm, at least 2 miles right there, usually at a trot, channeling PG's most recent mantra, so that I didn't, well, you know...

Hot - people were raving about the fact that it was "cooler" then last year. Umm, 90 is too hot for me, even just "sitting around." Next year, I bring a fan!!

Highlight - A helicopter landed on the infield to take out an injured cyclist. Luckily, at least for the RD, it was not a cyclist in the event. Yeah, well, it sucked for the injured party, but...well, hard to explain the relief that no one in the race was hurt. Impressively, not one notable injury among the 174 teams/individuals out on the course at any one time. Anyway, I had video, well, except for the fact that I haven't quite mastered that feature on my new toy.

Ah, well, it is well past bedtime, and perhaps, I will actually "work out" tomorrow. Or not...

Running/Walking (Treadmill Program) 1:00:00 [2] 4.7 mi (12:46 / mi)
shoes: Aqua Velvet

Needed something easier on the legs and the lungs (muggy heat). Stood on the treadmill for a couple of minutes convincing myself that this was better then lying in bed reading a book.

1 minute at 4.4 5.4 4.4 4.8 5.8 mph x 10
5 minute each warm up/cool down
Walked most of the 4.4 mph.

Biking (Commute) 50:00 [1] 9.5 mi (5:16 / mi)
shoes: Bike Sandals

Edit: The ride home was tough. Wind gusting so hard that I was being pushed from side to side.

I need to figure out what is going on with my brake cable. It is popping out of the front slot. Do I need to tighten it?

___________________________________________________________

Pooped from the weekend, but my bike was still in the back of the car, and though I woke up a little late, I followed through. Good thing I didn't know about the breezy conditions beforehand.

Enjoyed the ride in, made better by getting the light from Dinwiddie on to George Mason green, so I actually had some momentum going up the incline.

Added the rest of the day's ride in now, including going home the long way, so now I have to.

Note

Today, I accepted another bike race timing gig for October. Gave a good (semi-friend) price, so they accepted.

I also quoted a price on timing bike races each of the next 4 Wednesday evenings. I kind of hope the guy thinks it is too much $ and turns me down. I quoted this one as $100 a night higher since doing these events after working all day isn't too appealing.

I think that I shouldn't accept any jobs during my "slow" time. I forget how busy I feel after the season - Orienteering and timing - kicks in and overlaps during the fall.

Biking 11:00 [1] 2.0 mi (5:30 / mi)
shoes: Bike Sandals

A little bike ride at Green Lane. Went uphill and then screamed back downhill (25.8 mph). I was a little scared. ;)

Orienteering race (Green Lane Course 1) 35:00 [3] *** 3.2 km (10:56 / km) +60m 10:00 / km
ahr:140 max:158 shoes: Poison Ice Bugs

Day 2 of the weekend events held by DVOA. Again, I started with an easier course, in this case, it was the White/Yellow relay leg. Started about 35 minutes before the mass start.

Orienteering race (Green Lane Course 2) 1:07:23 [3] *** 3.1 km (21:44 / km) +95m 18:51 / km
ahr:121 max:148 shoes: Poison Ice Bugs

This was Course 2 which was advertised as the Orange/Brown course. Trails really sloppy (applies to first course as well), and I also hosed Control 2 pretty badly - small boulder in lots of green stuff. Wanted to quit before I found 2, but I hung in there and finished.

Thanks to DVOA for a fine weekend of events, and to Sandy for the dinner and overnight accomdations.

Orienteering race (Camp Delmont Red) 2:03:16 [3] *** 6.0 km (20:33 / km) +185m 17:48 / km
ahr:129 max:152 shoes: Ice Bugs - Green

Rain, rain, go away.

Orienteering race (Camp Delmont Sprint) 28:21 [3] 2.2 km (12:53 / km) +70m 11:07 / km
ahr:129 max:152 shoes: Ice Bugs - Green

Come back some other day.

Actually, I did the Sprint first...

Walking warm up/down (Treadmill) 10:00 [1] 0.7 mi (14:17 / mi)
shoes: Aqua Velvet

Humidity was too icky, so I used the treadmill.

Running (Treadmill Program) 40:00 [2] 3.65 mi (10:58 / mi)
shoes: Aqua Velvet

Program: 1 minute at 5.0 6.0 5.0 5.4 6.4 mph x 8
Felt pretty good, i.e., I did not have to hang on for the 6.4 mph portion.
Breathing good as well. Tunes sucked. Need to do some selective uploading to my shuffle.

Note

I ordered an iphone. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow. So far, the shipping route has been China to Hong Kong to Alaska.

Note

Finally made a decision, and I am going to attend the DVOA events this weekend. Considering that it will probably be the last formal event I attend before the Scottish 6 Days, it makes sense to go. I hope I can find some self motivation for training seven weeks.
