O Training (Long Champs) 1:20:00 [3] *** 4.4 mi (18:11 / mi)
shoes: Poison Ice Bugs

Mind not on the course after the 2nd control. Stuggled for about 30 minutes in the wrong area looking for #3, and then relocated to the road. I was the closest to the finish as I would be again, unless I actually finished, so I bailed. Happy with the decision.

Barb B smoked the course! First woman, and about 12th of ~70 on Green.

O Training (Control pickup) 1:00:00 [3] *** 2.5 mi (24:00 / mi)
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

Picked up about 1/2 mile of streamered trail and five controls. It was hard. Lots of things were hard this week, but I am feeling pretty mellow as of Sunday afternoon at 7:15, and it only took one beer and some peanut butter fudge.

Misc (Mount Elbert) 3:50:00 [4] 5.0 mi (46:00 / mi) +1200m 26:21 / mi
shoes: Poison Ice Bugs

Sarah is here, and the plan was to get some hiking in. We were rained out yesterday, so after a slow start to the day, we walked around Breckenridge instead.

So, for today, Sarah wanted to hike a 14er, so we had picked Mount Elbert since it was supposed to be not too technical. Hey, what do we know?! :)

Made it to about 13700' - less than a mile to go, I think. That was enough for a first effort, considering my lack of training, and the fact I hate to climb hills. I carried too much in my pack as usual, so this was probably a factor as well. I was running out of steam when it started to rain, and then hail. The mountain was socked in, so we decided it was smart to turn back.

Actual time out was 7 hours - 4:50 up and 2:10 back down, but we rested quite a bit going up. We hiked in from the paved trailhead adding 2 miles to the trip each way. We probably would have made it if we had the proper vehicle to have driven in those two miles.

I feel surprisingly good this evening. We'll see what hurts tomorrow.

It was tough, probably the hadest thing I will ever do. But a very good day with my daughter, and I feel a great sense of (almost) accomplishment.

Misc 2:10:00 [3] 5.0 mi (26:00 / mi)

The return trip.

Note

I am not sure, but schlepping around 56 pounds of carry on luggage for several hours should probably count as something.

I made it to Denver safely, just an hour late leaving National.

Enjoyed wine and chocolate cake at the RT near the hotel. Life is good!
