TT Long

This was rough. I guess I found my physical limit for a weekend of O in my current shape and life. (The limit was reached some time between finishing the sprint and starting the long, it seems.) I went out and found controls but not without two of the most massive wanders I've ever had. And I had to sit down and rest a few times, even though I was mostly walking. A long day, time to rest up for finding controls better tomorrow.

Cool down with Josh (!) around the upper pond. This is the second time that the TT sprint has happened to take place very close to where Josh happens to be living.

Training at Macedonia with Sam, Hill, and Greg. Looks like New England woods, the white is mostly very nice and the scrappy stuff is often awful.
I think we're all assuming the vegetation mapping is more up-to-date at Pond Mtn.

Running (treadmill/track) 20:00 intensity: (11:00 @2) + (3:00 @3) + (3:00 @4) + (3:00 @5)

Various running on the treadmill and track for the gait analysis program at Boston Running Center (my Christmas present from Melissa last year!) Sounds like there's lots I can do to see improvement in my road and track running.

Note

The Team Trials are this weekend! Lots of good runners will be there and I aim to join several of them on this year's WOC team. (Yes, that's right, I am officially retiring from my status as perennial alternate.)

My goal for the weekend is to be selected for one or both of the sprint events. After taking a break last year for various life events I decided to use my newly limited training time to focus specifically on shorter distances and road speed. I ran lots of commute workouts and did heaps of armchair with sprint courses. The results are quite positive -- I went from a very slug-like state as I became a mom and a wife, to now being in the best running shape I've ever been in. And I can sprint. I have a lot of confidence standing at the start of a sprint race and I enjoy it immensely. I'm even sad there's only one sprint at the TT. But I'm ready to play the game and race my best over all three distances, even though it sounds like I might melt while trying. :-)

Orienteering 36:21 intensity: (1:02 @0) + (11:21 @1) + (23:04 @2) + (50 @3) + (4 @4) *** 3.84 km (9:27 / km) +108m 8:17 / km
ahr:145 max:176 9c shoes: Nina (O-Roc 280)

New England woods re-familiarization at Nobscot. I ran an old course from my mom's collection, taking the first half very slowly to see what things looked like and how far I could see (generally far) and how the running was (generally very good). White woods sure are a lot faster around here than in Oslo, though anything green has the potential to be gross.

I thought I was only allergic to birch pollen in Scandiland and to Texas, but it seems I'm also now allergic to something here. Sad face.

Running (grass) 32:16 intensity: (2:05 @0) + (29:34 @1) + (37 @2) 4.85 km (6:39 / km) +5m 6:37 / km
ahr:124 max:164 shoes: Kendrick (Saucony Jazz)

Family outing to Heard Farm with Melissa, Lukas, Mami, and Bibiche. For me it was a fight-jet-lag run while the others walked -- even the dog. The dog has recovered enough from her accident (she was hit by a car 12 weeks ago, it was bad) to run but a) my mom doesn't trust her off-leash now and 2) she seems only to want to run when no one wants her to, i.e., when someone opens a door in the house but not when someone is running with her leash.

Heard Farm is a lovely place for a walk or a social jog but it's terribly boring for just getting some minutes done. Yesterday my boredom was temporarily suspended by the appearance of what must have been a genetically modified turkey. It was the most hugest wild turkey I've ever seen, though admittedly it may only have seemed so ginoromous because I was able to watch it so closely for so long.
