Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.8 km (5:21 / km)
shoes: Krk (O-Roc 280)

Warming up, some running and some running on the warm up map, getting used to the map and scale. And the boulders that were more like tiny cliffs.

I tried to kid myself before the start that I felt so energetic and not jet-lagged, but I don't think it quite worked. On the plus side, I did feel focused and I was not rushed starting off on the first leg, which was tricky. Unfortunately, my focus only got me so far as the edge of the circle, and I did a little confused 3 minute loopty-loop before I figured out what I had done. Not a great start but the sky was opening up, so it was definitely going to get better.

It did! Melissa likes to remind me that I do better when the weather is terrible, and from number 2 all the way to after the arena went much better. I saw a bit of Louise, who seemed to be taking slightly different routes from me and bouncing around (and making some mistakes, I'd say, since she'd be gone one for a while and then I'd see her on the next leg), and then saw Sam but only for one leg, as she was went by quickly.

After the arena I was just totally beat, and I made it to all of the controls but could not keep my focus. Walked all the ups, didn't really hit any of them dead on. No finish kick. Ooph.

In summary, it was not a good run, but I avoided any tremendous disasters. Without the first control it would have been perfectly satisfactory and acceptable. Not great, but just fine. It would be nice to have a just fine run on Saturday. However, I am exhausted. Hard to imagine going out and running at all tomorrow, let alone a long course. Woo! Excited!

Note

Today's success: acquiring several roles of Lakrisal for cedarcreek and the unsuspecting residents of the CSU cabins.

I was super productive this afternoon after teaching and before class, but somehow I still have so much left to do before leaving that I imagine sleep will be hard to find. Boo.

Weather didn't look so nice from inside, as it was just above freezing and snowing, which sounded sort of wet and cold. But when I stepped outside it was awesome. By awesome I mean it was worse, since it was sleeting sideways. And by sideways I mean that it was moving at whatever angle it needed to move in order to fly directly into my eyes.

Ran a circuit on mostly blue trails up to Ullevålseter and back, mot klokken. By the time I was halfway up it was just snow, and at Ullevålseter it was big fluffy flakes, starting to stick. The way back down was a bit nasty, very slick, and I jammed my ankle in between some rocks. Bashed up my heel but it's okay, just a flesh wound.

Had Melissa's shuffle with me for entertainment. This was a risk. There aren't very many types of music that I actively dislike, but there are a few genres that just pass through my consciousness without any kind of recognition or acknowledgement. This happens frequently with country music and 80's monster ballads. Melissa likes both of those, inexplicably, and in fact many of her favorite songs fall in the latter category. Today's selection was surprisingly okay, and if there were any monster ballads I don't remember. Because I never notice them. But the first song was "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" and it's pretty hard not to notice that one. Thankfully there was some Moxy Früvous to save the day.
