Hiking 2:53:00 [1] 5.11 mi (33:51 / mi)
Hiking w/ P on the Midstate Trail in Spencer up to Sampson's Pebble and back. With a side excursion on the return leg to explore an open field very close to the Midstate, obviously maintained by someone, not used for growing crops that we could divine, but not posted private or otherwise restricted. Haven't figured out what that was.
I was surprised, but P was not, that we encountered a total of 0 people on the hike.
Then, on the way home from Spencer, I stopped at Moore State Park in Paxton. Many years back we went on a family hike there and saw the Chestnut Research Orchard where they were grafting American Chestnut scions onto Asian (?) Chestnut rootstocks, hoping the blight-hardiness would derive from the rootstock but the nut production would derive from the scion. I was happy to see some large chestnut trees that had cast off many burrs.
Also got some pictures of the water falling from the lake and running down the former sawmill course.
