Orienteering race 1:45:00 [2] **** 5.3 km (19:49 / km)
ahr:137 max:162 shoes: Falcon

Older Dash, Green, day 2. Some legs were actually good. Good planning, good contact, good execution. Some were slogs. Beautiful course designed by J-J. I loved crossing the running water. One more leg with what looked like a huge amount of unavoidable climb (6-7, #83). Looking at it now I think the route way to the right might be faster; it certainly avoids the needless extra climb I did going over the top (an extra 10 contours) and avoids the boulder flow to the left of the stone wall that was way more prominent than mapped. As mapped, it looked like the nasty green to the NE of the stone wall was obvious DO NOT ENTER area, but the open woods to the SW was runnable in parts. In reality the whole thing, 5-10 contours worth, was littered with knee-waist high boulder pieces requiring careful stepping.

Today I paid more careful attention while crossing ski slopes, thumbing and couting them carefully, and didn't get as confused as Saturday.

Orienteering race 1:45:20 [2] *** 5.0 km (21:04 / km)
ahr:135 max:164 shoes: Falcon

Older Dash Green day 1. Although this course was mostly downhill, there were a couple of drawbacks to making any fast progress. First was that some of the downhills were, as advertised, wicked steep. Second, there was at least 1 leg (4-5 on green, going to control #181) that was just a beast of a climb. I did not see any good way to execute this leg. I guess the fast people went wide, way left of the line, where the progress was not as steep as the more direct route, and less of a boulder minefield. I went through the light green boulder minefield. Slowly. And then missed the control from an attack point 50m away.

Orienteering 45:00 [1]
shoes: Falcon

Walking/jogging on the model map at Weeks Woods. Did some careful pace counting, and it looks like maybe my stride has shortened. I'm now getting about 10% more "counts" per 100m, where "count" is L-R if I'm jogging or L-R-L if I'm walking. Using the 10% inflated pace count, some of my control approaches were *much* closer than previously.

This might explain some kinds of errors I've made recently, but not all of them, and not the most egregious, outrageous errors.

Cycling 30:00 [1] 4.5 km (6:40 / km)

Easy spin.

Hiking 58:17 [1] 5.4 km (10:48 / km)
shoes: Salomon trail shoes

Cascades trails. No water visibly flowing, not even at the 100 foot cascade at the bottom. Activity was a mixture of hiking/jogging.
