Highlander. I spent a surprising amount of time by myself: 2-scramble-8-trail run, then joined up with Sharon for a few controls on the technical Rockhouse map, but lost her at the KOTM leg. Ran with Paul/CNYO from KOTM to the swamp past 25, then solo on the last loop.

Good energy, although I got a few twinges of cramps on the long slog from 21-22. How long was that beast anyway? 2KM? Seems like we pursued 22 for an hour.

I feared that I would arrive at the beginning of map 4 too late to start, but J-J encouraged me. Very glad to see such a large map scale.

AOWN: Coming up from the deciduous tree (30) toward the parking lot, a buck and I eyed each other. I was going to stick to the easy paved route, which was maybe a bit longer, but he was nearby, and I didn't want to have a Wildlife Incident after 7 hours. I diverted up the more direct route up the steep hill at the corner of the parking lot, and all was well.

Dry cough. Could be allergies, but it's late in the year for my typical fall allergies, and I have no other symptoms.

Loop Road race at work. I had my Polar HRM (daily watch) but no chest strap; no Garmin receiver but the Garmin strap. Bleah. Also, no eyeglass strap, so I was pushing my sunglasses up every few steps. Double Bleah.

On the good side, no one passed me ater the first 40m. Many, many people went out too fast. I passed maybe 10-15 people on the first loop and 2-3 on the 2nd. Splits were 8:10 (late) and 8:16. Time was 12 seconds faster than last year.
