Note

Up at the crack of dawn to drive to Boston to fly to Milwaukee. Arrived at Milwaukee local time 8:15 am. Phew.

Road running 1:06:15 [1] 7.0 mi (9:28 / mi)
ahr:137 max:165 shoes: BA10

ARRT 7M loop w/ P. 6 minutes slower than last week. Legs weren't springy. Many (comparatively) runners out. We were even passed by 2, which almost never happens, not because we are so fast but because the traffic is so light.

Cycling 30:00 [2] 5.0 mi (6:00 / mi)

Rode mountain bike to and from Cascading Waters. The ride home was in rain and thunderstorm.

Hiking 24:00 [1] 1.0 mi (24:00 / mi)
shoes: Jalas2

Hiking up the trails. The Greater Worcester Land Trust (or some other group) has done some excellent trail maintenance, installing switchbacks and erosion bars on the extremely steep ascent. Prior to this, it was hand-over-hand.

Up on the flat part of the trails, the vines were starting to grow across the trail. I didn't even recognize a trail junction at first. The vegetation has changed, the amount of tree cover, it just looked much different since the last time I had run the trails.

trail running 12:00 [3] 1.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
ahr:148 shoes: Jalas2

Run down the trail from the top. The weather was changing, wind starting to pick up, the occasional tree branch falling to the forest floor. Somewhat more urgency than on the way up.

Road running warm up/down 39:00 [1] 3.8 km (10:16 / km)
shoes: BA9

1200 w/u, 1200 c/d, and 7x200m recovery between intervals.

Road running 13:00 [5] 3.2 km (4:04 / km)
ahr:151 max:188 shoes: BA9

2 x 4 x 400m at a consistent, hard effort. Aiming to be at 1:40 or better.
Recoveries were about 3' or until HR neared 100 bpm. Intervals were
1:39.5 @ 144 (average)
1:38.4 @ 146
1:41.3 @ 148
1:37.1 @ 149
1:34.1 @ 146
1:37.2 @ 149
1:35.8 @ 153
1:32.3 @ 169

HR hit 188 on final interval, the highest I've ever seen. Perhaps not coincidentally, on the final interval, a soccer ball skittered across the lanes as I was beginning. I yelled out "TRACK" and scared the @#$%1 out of the woman chasing it down. She got out of my lane in a hurry. Whether it was the oxygen debt from shouting or the adrenaline, I had difficulty breathing on the last interval.
