Went out for a final run in the Gats at Meech lake. We were starting late in the day so that everyone could get one last mountain biking session in. I was running with Emily and our Dad and regrouping every so often at a specified control. Unfortunately I lost it on the way to #6 in a particularly green area. I bailed and found an unmarked 4 lane divided high way which only confused me more. I then changed directions and eventually found a large unmistakable cliff by which point it began to get dark. What started out as fun orienteering quickly developed into orienteering to get back to civilization. My head lamp was already low on batteries and as darkness swept I was forced to orienteer in a bubble of light. I fought off the impression of being swallowed by the forest and being careful to check my compass I stumbled my way through the woods. Eventualy a dark void in front of me materialized into the highway. Relieved I ran the last couple hundred meters to the truck.
