Running 30:00 [1] 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
Setting controls, jogging a bit of the orange course with Kelly, and warming up for the sprint at various times in the day at Hyland. Another great skills clinic day!
orienteering race 11:19 [5] 2.1 km (5:23 / km)
Fun sprint course at Hyland. Had a good run with two bobbles, one small one medium. Into CP two I overshot it a bit as I ran the fence line looking to the right for the boulder at which I expected the control. I ran about 3m too far down the hill before I realized I had probably gone to far. Turned around and headed into the woods and saw it right away. The rest of the course went well until CP 14. After 13, I recognized the area of the control and told myself that it was a small foot trail that headed north right at the beginning of the ski trail. So I put my map down and ran hard to it. Well, there were two trails that went north around there, and I ran to the second, more easterly one. I ran up it, saw nothing and had to bushwack over to the CP. I felt like it cost me a lot of time, but it was likely only 15 seconds. Pete really crushed this course. Even without those two mistakes he still had me by 30 seconds and I was running at my best. Hats off to that performance. Pete, can't you get old faster or something?
