Cycling race 33:00 [5]

TNC (Tuesday night cross) at Aquila Park in SLP. After winning last week I felt a bit more nervous this week. I went out hard and settled into 3rd place for the first lap. At the beginning of lap two I worked my way into the lead but only briefly. I was so passed by two riders, neither of whom were the two I overcame to take the lead. Two young guys I'd never seen before, one in an Omnium jersey and one in a yellow and black jersey I didn't recognize. The second one looked like he was about 16 years old. He passed me on a steep climb like I was standing still.

There was a twist to this week's race. There was a box placed out on course. If the lid was on when you passed it, there was cash or merchendise in it. During the third lap, I saw the lid was on. I got off my bike and nabbed the cash, happily stuffing it into my jersey pocket. Whoohoo! Got passed by one guy during my loot snaching, but caught him and passed him within a quarter lap.

Next lap, the lid was on again! Opened it and grabbed a bike tool kit! Score. It wouldn't fit in my jersey pocket so I stuffed it down my shirt. After a full lap with that heavy thing I tossed it to Andrei who graciously returned it to me after the race. Now I had to try to catch the guys that passed me while I was stuffing the loot down my shirt.

I don't think I ever did, not sure, as by this time we were lapping the slower riders and inwas not sure who was who. That and I was tri dumb--no oxygen to the brain.

Finished either 4th or 5th. No repeat of last weeks victory, but I was happy to place in the top 5 of about 40 riders while making time to snatch the loot!

After the race I felt pretty aweful. Cottonmouth and lightheaded. I had trouble chatting with Andrei for at least 15 minutes after I was done. I was overheated and generally hurting from the oxygen deprivation.

CX = pain.
