The big one.
So the team started off well with Matjaz at the front of the leading pack for most of the first leg. A few time losses here and there during the night and we came out in a really solid position.
I wasnt so sure what to expect for my new role on the 8th leg, which is pretty different to my first position in 7th leg.
Picked up my map and it took me a solid 100m just to find the start! Bloody A2
I had some solid pace through the first few controls but still a little sloppy on direction. I caught about 4 teams in the first 5 controls.. But I didnt want to look like a retard trying to scope out their chestnumber.
Some pretty poor direction on the way to 7 cost me a bit of time in the route choice. But it meant that I could run with Red Shirt guy for the next 2 controls.
Was feeling pretty fatigued in the calves already at this point, and my knee half-injury wasnt helping. So I cracked my gel on the way to 10 because I couldnt handle it weighing down my pants any longer which have hardly any elastic left in them. Downed some warm (thankfully) water as well at the drink stop. Lost contact with Red Shirt guy at this point.. Probably because I went on to make a small mistake.
Took the softy route choice to 11 and smashed it out along the track getting in some good reading ahead time.
Navigated pretty well through the harder controls. Had to slow down a couple of times to check off a few features.
#16 was pretty much a point the compass and run leg. Nearly made a parallel error at the end though, which is why I swing right too far.
Threw down some more warm water and smiled to the cameras at control 18. I was pretty happy to be on the home stretch at this point.
A few more little hesitations on the way to 19 but then it was full steam ahead through the last few controls where I finally caught sight of some other people running around.
Didnt want to leave anything in the tank so I powered it home.
My aim was to not drop any places but when I finished I found out I jumped 6 places or something down.. So mission accomplished.
Håkan Eriksson and Stefan Jonsson finished strongly on legs 9 & 10 and we ended up with 80th place. Which Apparently is a new club record for the B team so thats a bit of a win!
I expected there to be a bit more pack running but Red Shirt guy is pretty much the only person I ran with.
All in all I am pretty happy with my run. Did alright through the difficult controls. Just need to practice some more precision and of course get a lot stronger in the terrain.
