Note
(sick)

Still a fair amount of chest congestion and an annoying cough. However, the good news is that I tested negative this morning, so maybe I am on my way out of this. Rhonda seems never to have gotten it, whether by being away in TX at a critical transmission juncture, or just better immune response.

We had been scheduled to attend a wedding this weekend, but canceled out because of concern about my lingering illness. It appears that the father of the bride may be similarly compromised.

Rowing Machine 9:34 [3] 2.0 km (4:47 / km)
slept:6.0 weight:165.2lbs shoes: 2020 Merrell Trail Glove 5

Easy. No interest in going at all fast enough to elevate my breathing rate. Last 500 m I was getting the tell-tale signs of strain in my L forearm, always the weak link in my rowing history.

First time on the machine in 8 months, and only a few times since my old friend and rowing correspondent Clark passed away a year ago. I hope to gradually re-incorporate this. Anyway, it was hard, whether because of age, de-training or lingering covid. Hard to imagine I could go any faster at this point, not that I was pushing it..

cycling (Ebike) 53:44 intensity: (16:01 @1) + (34:29 @2) + (1:54 @3) + (1:20 @4) 12.24 mi (4:23 / mi) +65m 4:19 / mi
ahr:113 max:145

Out with Rhonda from PV. Gentle pace. Certainly not enough to breathe hard, which would have been contra-indicated in my current respiratory state. First time this year for Rhonda, still trying to get over her broken thumb.

Still some symptoms, mostly chest congestion, but clearly doing better. This wouldn't have worked out so well a day or so ago, and really wasn't any problem. So tomorrow maybe do a little more.

In the grand range of symptoms, I never really had a fever. Highest I measured at any point was 98, so maybe a degree or so higher than I usually run, but only the one time over 97. Sore throat was pretty painful the first couple of days, but decreased each day. Junk in the throat is dissipating, and not colorful. Sense of smell is definitely compromised. Not gone, and not particularly unpleasant, but I had to stick my face in the lilacs to smell them when I was walking by this morning. Took another swab, still positive. So not going anyplace for a while. Rhonda is still negative, symptom free. Another day or so and I'll conclude she dodged it. Still can't figure out where I may have gotten it.

If AP thinks I’m snowshoeing, I can’t complain. Just wanted to log one of these, the so-called hospital loop, a pleasant walk in the woods, not straying too far from home and no significant obstacles, just right for methodical recovery. It got its name back when Rhonda was recovering from a difficult appendectomy back in 2011, and went around and around and around some more. It’s been called into use at times when some recovery is needed many times, and is also a nice way to get outside when you only have 8 or 10 minutes. It’s been just right for me the last few days, one loop at a time.

Anyway, much improved today and likely better tomorrow.

ER early this morning for a chest X-ray. The doc said I was too far into it for paxlovid, so at this point just rest, hydrate, get through it. Somewhat better by afternoon.

Still pretty sick today, and re-tested after being COVID-negative on Friday. Positive today, so my apologies to people I was around this weekend, and hope no one else comes down with it. Zack is also positive, and has had symptoms since Saturday. Rhonda is negative. No idea where this might have come from.
