Rhonda still on the mend. She was walking loops around our upper trail, two at a time. Maybe 5 miles worth today, not fast.

Had a lot of exercise ideas, but Zack and I did yard work instead. Vacuumed and mulched a lot of leaves. Ideally that would have been done last fall, but I didn't beat the snow. Then we power washed the leave vac, and finally some brush mowing of tall grasses that Rhonda likes to leave for the winter but clean up in the spring.

Very nice red course by walk. Rainy day, so a bit slippery in the woods, and too much moisture on my glasses to see anything but the biggest features on the map. That worked pretty well for a course like this with long legs and route choices involving mountains. Nominal course length 8.7, but I took some around routes. Mostly fine, but pulled up short on the way to 2 where I couldn't see anything on the map, and so didn't realize I had to get over to the rocky hill. Pretty good route to 4, in contact all the way despite not seeing the map at all well. Going to 6, Dave Yee passed me on the trail shortly before the control. He stayed on the trail longer, but we both missed off to the left. I saw the two rocky outcrops, but wasn't sure if they were the center and N one or the E and center one, so drifted too far. Dave was up by the boulder near the center one, so I figured it out first and got to #6. Then I couldn't see the map and just went on a bearing toward 7, sucked off by a rock to the right. Dave went up and over to 8. I took the trail all the way around, which was apparently 7 minutes faster. Starting to get to me going uphill to 10 and 11.

My route.

Note

Rhonda is still pretty weak, but walking around the house and outside a bit. This may take a while, but at least she is home and on the mend.

2 1/2 dog loops. Middle of the 2nd my back was protesting, so just did enough of the third to close the gates again. Sassy was coming along, trying to block me to keep the pace under wraps.

Gym 45:00 [3]

at the gym in town. Workout today involved a lot of medicine ball throwing including situps and throwing, some running outside. Not as strenuous as some other classes.

30 one arm dumbbell push presses (20#)
30 situps
30 lunges with the dumbbell
30 pushups
30 box jumps
run 1/2 mile

spent the night at the hospital with Rhonda. She is better today than yesterday, had a CAT scan this morning, of which we await results. Deepest difficulty for her is she has been on n.p.o. since she got in and would desperately like to sneak at least a glass of water. Still pumping her full of various liquids and chemicals. In the context of L&F, her g is still way up, mood improving.

Note

CAT scan revealed an abscess, so back in to radiology for more imaging to get the position right, and then a needle through the skin into the abscess to set up a drain. A thoroughly unpleasant experience, but reasonably satisfactory once complete. Has to continue to drain for some indeterminate period, but nutrition is supposed to start tomorrow, and that is something to look forward to. Likely to be here for several days yet.

Meanwhile, this is what Rhonda's brother Randy had to say about her:

tough as steel, that's for sure, like Churchill in a skirt, less the top hat and cigar
