Orienteering race 1:27:30 [3] 5.1 km (17:09 / km)

Green course. Still hot, but rainy, so perhaps not as oppressive. Generally good navigation - used the water features more, which seems to work a lot better. Got perplexed and lost on the way to 9, though, and then another big boom near the circle. Otherwise a pretty good run.

Orienteering race 1:53:50 [3] 6.3 km (18:04 / km)

Red course at Pawtuckaway. Amazingly hot. Generally a pretty good, if slow run, with the exception of #8, the shortest leg. Just couldn't find the darned thing, relocating time and again off every solid feature in the area. Finally Mary Jo found it a bit S of where I kept returning.

Orienteering (Canoe-o) 58:45 [3]

Canoe-o, solo and in the kayak. Or sort of solo, as Rhonda was following me around. Should have skipped #3, which would have allowed me to get the other 13. Instead I ended up skipping both 14 and 8 as I was running low on time. Remarkably hot! Haven't been kayaking this summer, so perhaps I was a touch slower than I could have been, but no trouble navigating, and much less difficulty punching than in other years. Lost a little time maneuvering the boat around #2, and just got out of the boat for one other one.

Orienteering (Night O) 2:09:10 [3] 6.09 km (21:13 / km)

Generally went great. Never planned to go all the way around, although I certainly could have. Didn't want to be the last guy out, though, and didn't want to fall victim to heat exhaustion in the middle of the night. Controls were easy to see when I got to the right place, and navigation was fine. Ran very little to none. Skipped #s 7, 8 and 9. 9 in particular seems to have given people fits, so probably a good skip.

Running 47:00 [3] 4.5 mi (10:27 / mi)
weight:166lbs

Down Hansen and up Bunker Hill, with Kathleen and Rhonda - or at least eating their dust.

cycling 2:46:00 [3] 35.0 mi (4:45 / mi)
weight:168.5lbs

Ride up to Granville and around through Granby and West Simsbury. Pretty slow, and I could certainly feel the climbs in my lower back.

Note

About an hour of laurel wrangling in the vicinity of the big rock near the house. Didn't have much time so didn't want to travel back to the boundary project, and I have a dream of clearing out some of the area NW of the house. The big rock is looking pretty good, and is much more accessible than it was. Here I've just been cutting and leaving the slash where it falls, while I've been making more of an effort to pile it up back on the new trail and on the boundary. It will be interesting to see how that looks in the spring.

weight:167.5lbs

About an hour of laurel wrangling, as I ran out of time for more substantial activities.

Tom was picking me up for a golfing excursion at Tunxis. Golf unremarkable except for the delightful experience of hitting the pin on the 188 yard par 3 5th hole on the Green course. Set out to play 9, but a lovely evening and nobody there so we ended up playing about 14.
